Your basing your position on two schools. What schools were they?
LA ranks almost dead last for a reason. It’s not some money based brainwashing that people go private. It really is that bad.
When/if you transition to parenting, it’ll likely become clearer for you.

Well, if you’re in the NOLA area, then there’s no “whatever reason” about it. If you have two nickels to rub together, then you’re sending your kids to Catholic/Private schools because the public schools are just not good. Been that way for quite some time, and isn’t changing anytime soon.

Not sure of your actual point here, but you are likely correct with the assertion...which proves most everyone’s point...you have to go to a Catholic/Private school in LA to compete with public schools in TX.
The public schools are, for the most part, head over heels better in TX, and even here people jockey for Charta/Private/Catholic schools.

Yep. Not sure why it's hard for some to not understand this.
I live in a good neighborhood with new houses being build all the time that are selling for over $500K. We have a public grade school four blocks away. Would love to have been able to send my kids there and walk them to school, but it's total garbage. The bottom feeders are the only ones who send there kids there because the kids from apartments and run down areas a few miles away ruined the school 20 years ago.
It has a D grade and 70% of the kids are on free or reduced lunch program.

I dont really send my kids there Chuck. I get the heebies just driving through that neighborhood after 4 pm. Belaire is starting to get as bad and from what i hear from friends, Tara and McKinley also. Hell...look at that news article on wbrz about McKinley and teachers sharing classrooms. EBR aint ever going back.

Not really. We have good public schools in Bossier. I went K-12 to Bossier Parish schools and never felt at any disadvantage to private schoolers in college. Now, if I lived in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, or Shreveport (not counting Caddo Magnet) like a large % of the LA population, I'd send mine to private school.

The magnet programs in Baton Rouge were great 25 years ago, and I imagine for the most part they still are.
But anything associated with BR or Louisiana in general must get shite on 24/7 by most of the posters here I guess

For extremely gifted and/or connected kids, there are likely better public options. For the average to even well above average kid, public school is probably going to be better.

Private highschools are mainly used as a way to brag among friends. My son goes to "______."

The reason would be test scores. Texas averages a 20.7 on the act with Louisiana at 19.7. and that's with a population 24 million higher.

Underwhelmed by Ascension Parish public schools we moved to BTR and bought house in close proximity to Magnet Elementary...tried 3X to get in but failed so did private. Got into Sherwood Middle Magnet which is feeder to BTR Magnet HS. Been extremely impressed with its academic rigor, teachers and student diversity. The actual school infrastructure is a shite show....kid just got accepted to BTR Magnet High so our plan worked out for us. Blessed to have a brilliant kid on the path to a great school... and have a ton more $ in a 529.
