Again....you know ahead of time when buying the house what the school district is like. And I wasn’t really talking about BR anyways. Everyone knows their public schools suck unless your kid is smart enough for magnet.
Was talking about other cities/areas that actually have decent public school districts.

Well where were you talking about? This is an LSU board with the majority of us living in Louisiana. Besides St. Tammany, the entire state is in the same boat when it comes to public schools.

In Lafayette Parish you can live in a great school district and they can bus your kid right out to a poorly performing school. They also redraw the lines in nonsensical ways all the time. I am not gonna leave my kid's education up to some corrupt school board. Catholic school for us.

Gotcha. My friends here...they all send their kids to public schools (except one couple...but they are really wealthy and so their kid goes to some really exclusive school). Just a different mindset I guess.
They just thoroughly researched school districts when they were house shopping. Stressed to my husband and I to do the same when we buy a house if we are blessed with a child in the future.

I doubt there is much “SJW” propaganda at decent schools such as Barbe, West Monroe, Sam Houston (Moss Bluff), Haughton, Sulphur, etc.
If I lived in NOLA or BR and couldn’t get into a magnet/charter school, then I would go private.

Live in Zachary. I have 2 kids in elementary. Once they get old enough for middle school we are going private. Zachary is going downhill. There are two massive track build subs going in over the next 3 years that will put close to 1000 sub 200k houses in the school district.

We'd likely pick the better Episcopal school over public/charter school anyway. Its a great school. Prior to the move even though we were in the district for maybe the highest rated elementary in the northern part of the county, there was still a lot we didn't like about it. Wasn't a fan of a large part of the day being group based, the lack of free play/recess/PE for younger kids, and I didn't feel the English/writing curriculum held a candle to the school we chose.

I laugh reading this because my pops could give two shits about any of this bullshite. I was lucky if he actually knew what school I went to back then. It was pretty much just a "how ya doing in school son?" " Good dad" kinda thing. I think me and my brother and sister turned out fine.

Zachary is the ultimate fool's gold. WHy would Drake leave them to go to EBR? He had ridden that high note and knew the writing was on the wall. Zachary is not the St. Francisville they wished they were.
How many murders and shootings in Baker and Zachary this year? Also, athletics has big-time superseded academics -- nothing wrong with that, but still, Zachary is a blend of white flight, homegrown boys, and athletic transfers. It is not difficult to uproot from one Baton Rouge apartment to one in Zachary...especially if you wanted to move your family 15 miles away from the 100+ murders in the city. AND, if your kid wanted to become the best athlete he can be with a top-notch athletic facility with trainers who have access to many supplements. Or...in 10 years, is Zachary St. Amant North?
I would go private before Zachary and even Dutchtown and Denham. North Baton Rouge just seems to creep closer and closer towards them. Baker is already a forgotten thought and cannot be repaired. ZHS will be a lot like a West Monroe and/or Byrd for as long as they can. BUT, are people moving to Zachary in droves the way they were 10 years ago? I am asking.

I want to live in England, so, I figure the best way to do that is to make as much money as I possibly can.

Was in Mandeville when the Lithettes were in school. Sent oldest to SSa. Youngest 2 went to Mandeville High School. ACT scores 32, 35, 33. Teacher, MD in May, Chemical Engineer in order.
