So basically BR only has one decent magnet public HS now...BRHS?
Shame they completely fricked up SMHS. Only way a magnet school can be successful is if it is ONLY MAGNET. You can't mix regular neighborhood kids with magnet kids and expect a thriving school.
If I have a kid....they are going public. While the entire state of AZ is usually ranked low education wise...thankfully there are many public school districts near me and throughout PHX metro that are actually good. The #1 ranked public high school in the nation is in Scottsdale(BASIS Scottsdale).

It depends on your parish. If you are in East Baton Rouge Parish the only public school would be Baton Rouge high school. If you are in Ascension, Saint Tammany, Livingston, Zachary the vast majority of public schools are excellent. I live in Ascension Parish and our district’s elementary, middle, and high school’s are all top 10 public schools in Louisiana. In fact one of them is the second highest rated public school.

I went to a well known, very expensive private school (scholarship) in a bigger city that had plenty of solid public/private schools. I can tell you there it was all about keeping up with the Joneses. If your neighbor's son went to X, then your son better go to X or better than X.

BRHMS works for you because of your kid's personalities. So in YOUR case paying for private school wouldn't be a smart decision. But to sit here and tell people that they are making a poor financial decision because they didn't send their kid to SJW BRHMS is a prick move. As smart as you try to sound on here, it would be very ignorant of you not to admit that BRHMS fits a very "different crowd".

Honestly this is the situation in most of the country but especially the South. The inner city schools save for magnets are terrible and the suburbs are decent to good.

I paid extra for a house in good district and commute a little bit further to work. Cheaper than private school.

Dallas has the school for the talented and gifted which is routinely ranked top 5 in the nation. It was number 1 for quite a few years.
But for the most part, the northern suburbs are better.

Yeah that's the only one I found and also the only one to have so many in Arizona so highly rated.

Basis is building a school here in BR, on the old Briarwood golf course. All of their schools are nationally ranked. I am very interested in the one here, and have been to multiple meetings about it.

Ouachita Parish is quite good.

I'm just glad that I at least live somewhere where public is still a viable option. You don't have the mindset that you have to pay for private school for your child to have a decent education.
Like I said...AZ is ranked very low education wise...usually only a few spots above LA. A lot of the issues stem from horrible teacher/student ratios and finding enough teachers. There are a lot of charter schools in the area though (ex: BASIS) and those all seem to do well.

Dude . I did not do that . I just talked about economic efficiencies. Every parent 100% SHOULD make that decision. I TOTALLY understand why you wouldn’t want to put your kids in public school , self-interest and good parenting.

And BRMHS is definitely not a white private school environment if that’s what you mean by “ different “. It’s heavy on smart black kids , poor kids, white BRHMS legacy hipsters, Asians and the kids of immigrants. More power to it . The SJW stuff is optional by the way, my kids opted out because we do things a bit Deeper here at the Pimp compound.

Yes, Lee High is now a magnet, and it's now competing with BRHS for students. College-prep curriculum, same entry requirements, offering a lot of dual enrollment classes. I know a few people who chose Lee High as their 1st choice over BRHS because they felt it was a better fit for their kids.
