Tiger Ryno, there are actual New Orleans baws on here. You probably just killed three of them.

Depends on the situation, I guess. If it is hot and I know I am going to need fans, then I will probably run it all night. I have one of those small, quiet Honda generators and then a bigger Generac. If I only need a few things powered and don’t expect a multi-day power outage, I use the Honda. I don’t feel bad at all about running the Honda at night, because my neighbors probably can’t hear it inside their house.

Yep, JBE thinks that his mask will protect him from carbon monoxide so he runs his genny in his bedroom all night.

My neighbor has a generator but I don’t. The purr didn’t bother me Last night but I noticed this morning he put his generator all the way on the edge of his property line (furthest away from his house) right next to my driveway.

Wow, what a nice guy he was to put it between our houses I though so I went and plugged my two refrigerators and coffee pot in.

He hasn’t asked me to split the gas money yet so we will see how that goes.

I just turned mine off to change the oil and the two neighbors I was worried about have generators running too.
Just hit 24 hours without power.

If you do run it 4 straight days just be sure to change the oil after day 4.

Run it to get the temperatures necessary to keep your foods safe in the fridge/freezer then shut down for a few hours to conserve fuel. Repeat. It’s not like you’re getting swamp arse from summer heat.

This.

I did after Katrina but I don't hear many others running. Just one other on my block.
I don't want to tick off neighbors with a constant lawnmower sound. I also like my fans and Netflix being on too.

What say the OT?

There's a difference between getting a hurricane in late August and not having power when it's hot as all frick and now. That's definitely justified. I'd probably keep the fridge going (and whatever other conveniences) during the day, kill it at night, and enjoy the night with all the windows open in this weather.

I heard them for a few weeks after Gustav. It didn't bother me. I was more jealous than we didn't have one and you couldn't find them anywhere.

Same here in BR. After nearly 10 days in the heat after Gustav I went out and bought a generator that would run my whole house with the exception of central AC along with a couple of window units. I have not had to use the generator yet but have used the window units a couple of times when my AC went down.

This wouldn't even be asked if it was during Laura. I was hot and humid as heck at that time. Being comfortable trumps any inconvenience of the neighbors hearing a loud noise. Survival wins every time.
