I had a man that I used to work with that always said, “It’s not a benefit if you don’t use it.”

I am not getting to my max. I get PTO, I’m using it!

Why don't you use your PTO?

Travel, golf, go boating or visit somewhere you want to see before you die

I am maxxed out on my PTO and can take two "free days" a month where I'll just get them back at the end of the month.

Especially because my company has taken away perks over the past couple of years, I will be using those two days every month. And I would be foolish not to.

Worrying about how someone else uses PTO days that they earned….

When do you do that? If you never take PTO?

Of course I respect taking PTO.

If the company buys it back end of year then that’s an added bonus of not using it.

Didn’t realize how many “men” we had here who bring zero value. Maybe the AI threat is real, at least around here. Step up.

That Baw earned that time…

Eh … it always seems to me those with the most time off earn it the least.

I don’t necessarily agree with the OP but I understand his sentiment. Usually what irritates me is when people either can’t give you a heads up or intentionally use it to avoid responsibility. I’ve got a manager that always waits until another manager puts in time, then like clockwork, the following morning we get the email “I’m using a PTO day …”

I’m not the kind of person to take time off “because,” but if you’ve got the time I don’t take issue with you using it.

You work for and earn that pto. if you're ok with giving the company back their money, good for you?

Maybe you should just work for free?

I happen to have good mgt who encourages employees to take their pto. Especially in a use it or lose it situation.

For some reason, I thought you were a partner at an accounting firm, or you owned your own firm.

PTO is part of your compensation plan. I've always asked that they just give me a heads up when they are not going to be here and we will manage if it's 1-2 days. If it's going to be longer, then give us some more time so we adjust the production line accordingly.

When on your death bed, what are you going to fondly remember: 1) The time you spent with friends and family, or 2) the fact you sat at your desk on a random Friday?

There's your answer.

Getting paid to sit at home is always better than getting paid to be at work.

The pushback on dedication you're getting is why employers look overseas or for immigrants for help.
