My mom believes that every time she finds a penny heads up on the ground it’s her father saying hello from Heaven. They used to pick them up together when she was growing up and she’s done this since he died when she was 16.

When I first heard of this psychological issue in my 20’s, I started dropping coins on the ground because I knew it would make some people happy for a day.

Then I stopped using cash for anything in my 40s so I almost never have coins to drop. I now wonder if those people think their loved one just don’t care enough anymore.

When I was a kid I worked at Wal-Mart and Sam came to visit the store. I saw him bend over and pick up a penny. It’s not because of him but yes I do pick up change.

I'm not sure if it's true, but I've heard a few times that he still drove his old beat up truck long after he had already become wealthy.

The fire station in my neighborhood has two quarters glued to the sidewalk with liquid nails—classic

We did this as juveniles in the mall and watched from the food court cracking the frick up

I remember a baw walked by and tried to pick it up and when he couldn't, heel kicked it with his boot heel and it popped off and he got it. Well-earned .25 for that guy.

That's why, if it's tails up, you flip it over first then pick it up.

Back in the early 90's, while still in HS, we used to throw pennies to this Jewish teacher at the school courtyard and she used to pick them up like if it was candy falling from a piñata. She used to say "it's good money" to us.
