I have a decent commute, and listen at other random times. All told, I listened to more than 125 audio books last year, all for free. If you aren't using the library app, you suspect.
A ton of audiobooks are available to borrow immediately. Some require you to be put on a waiting list. I typically have 6-8 books on a waiting list and they become available sporadically enough and you can have them for a month, so there really isn't a risk to putting the max amount on hold. Plus it doesn't cost you anything if you don't listen and have to put yourself back on the waiting list.
They don't have everything, but they have more than enough.
You can also add different libraries if you go through the EBR list. If you live in Ascension and work in BR, you can be a member of both libraries. You can also pay to join the Philadelphia library system and other library systems around the country. There are a ton of Reddit threads dedicated to who has the best audiobook collection and who you can buy a membership from.

There are private torrent websites that have every e-book/audio book imaginable for free

Do you listen to Audio books?
Never have, but am very interested.
With the purchase of the audio book, does this include a PDF copy of the book as well?
Asking, because how do you follow along or highlight if you would like to?

I got to the fourth (I think) undying mercenaries book, and got to the last bobiverse book and kinda gave up on them. I'm currently listen to old books I love.

Absolutely. I'm all about Audible on my work commute.

I just added it up and I’ve spent $350 in the last 4 months, is this high?
Yeah, that's high for 4 months. If you're talking Audible then the annual charges are $179.40 for 12 books. I do this and then NEVER buy a book at full price. Audible runs sales often and also has daily deals (sign up for the daily email). I've bought a LOT of books for $2.99 to $4.99. Their regular priced books are pretty expensive. I really enjoy audio books for long drives.

If you want GREAT look at the Bobiverse series by Dennis Taylor, awesome 3 book series
That's a pretty good one, finished it a few weeks ago. Now I have a 55+ hour Brandon Sanderson book loaded to my phone. I make monthly 6 hour drives to Memphis and a good audio book really helps.

I use Audible and it’s definitely not a rip off. That being said, I won’t buy anything for more than 1 credit and all the books I listen to are generally 35 - 50 hrs, so I get my money’s worth.
All of this. And I am always on waiting lists at two different libraries. I travel and do a lot of house projects so I can never get enough.

Do you listen to Audio books?
I do not. I prefer reading paper books. I like getting lost in the words and I don't get that same experience with audibles.

On Audible you can return books and get your credit back.
I have returned about 4 this month. Surely there is a limit, but it is apparently higher than 4.
Going to up my account to 2 credits/mo though before next charge, I feel kind of trashy recycling my credits.
ETA: LibriVox and the free library app are great resources too. I've probably listened to 40 books this year between LibriVox, RBDigital, and Audible.
