still curious about your thoughts on cyclist on keto.

i was competitive in cat5 and cat4 making the podium several times but i never ate sugar or pasta to carboload before a race or chocolate milk afterward.

the only time i went for sugar is if i was still in the main group in the final miles of a race; i always kept a margarita flavored shot-block in my jersey pocket and would tear that fricker open and destroy it for the sugar buzz and any help it could provide my fast twitch muscles. if i had been dropped then there was no point in eating sugar and dropping out of ketosis.

i wasn't a cat4-ever either my lifestyle was just changing dramatically about the time i was applying to cat-up and couldn't afford the coach & time for the training regiment.

cycling pretty much takes over your life if you have any aspirations whatsoever.

When you starve yourself of carbohydrates and take in less than the calories you need for daily metabolism, you will metabolize fat for caloric needs. That's where fat goes. Fat is a store of excess calories for future needs.

Damn I must be planning on getting stuck on a deserted island for a year.

Carb loading 24 hours before is bullshite. Using carbs intra race as quick energy source is legit and many keto or low carb athletes use carbs during their races or events

Everything I've read recommends avoiding it if you are looking for maximum gains.

I haven't dove more into the science because carbs have improved my performance. Now I'm working on fine-tuning my intake. Like obtuse said it is a hobby within a hobby. There is a lot to learn.

Just quit putting so much food in your mouth to begin with. I lost 45 pounds understanding the simple metabolic loop I outlined. I'm healthy as a thoroughbred racehorse now.

It becomes celestial cellulite. You can only see it on a very clear night in the southern night sky. It’s most visible around Fat Tuesday every year.

I always read when you were in ketosis that fat is converted to ketones which you then piss away.

I find it easier to thing about it as what type of fuel burning is going on mostly. Your mitochondria and other organelles are burning the sugar piped into cells via blood.

The mitochondria and other energy management systems are stateful. Their behaviors are influenced by their initial configuration (DNA) and the by relevant history which adjusts the tolerance thresholds for activities like: turn free sugar into fat or keep free sugar available in the stream for near term usage.

So, a person who drops 20 pounds of fat and water, but gains 5 pounds of muscle doesn't shite out blob of lard and absorb sheets of myomers, the organic machine reallocates a bunch of water, circulatory system plumbing and skin capacity from the belly and arse to their arms and legs. The migration occurs dozens of molecules at a time, so you're not going to have anything quantifiable without collecting and storing all projected: piss, exhalation, farts, sweat, and also measuring the energy taken in. Conservation of mass AND energy means the tracking the atoms ain't enough, you must also account for the photons and energy absorbed during these metabolism processes.

never had a problem keeping in the group during a hard race except for long climbs when the skinny guys usually get away. I only used shot blocks in the unlikely event I was in the sprint group at the end.
