Dude I posted that I understand why some people enjoy NOLA. I also have a college degree. IMO NOLAs negatives outweigh the positives. I've had bad experiences in the city involving my family and that left a bad taste in my mouth. If you look at the crime numbers though NOLA is a crime filled hole in the ground below sea level. Sure it has great food and festivals that people enjoy, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have really shitty aspects to it.

like i've started to say, the weird thing about Nola is that a lot of the appeals of its culture are negative in nature
now rocket has made some good points about its size and "stuff to do" and i get that, but there are simply SO MANY negatives about the city it seems incomprehensible to defend it to me. i mean it's pretty expensive and really expensive for a "mid-large sized city". i could stomach a lot of the propaganda/PR if it was reasonable in terms of price, but it's not (especially given salaries in Nola and if you're raising a family)
when you start to scale back all the demos that should not value Nola given its price, there aren't that many left, and then when you add in economic/employment variables, they seem non-existent

crime in Nola is really high per capita for the nation and it's one of the few major metro areas with a huge, recent spike
yeah it's not the mid-90s but NOWHERE is the mid-90s anymore. Nola is still really shitty on crime (and trending the wrong way)

Absolutely. NOLA just has more than most. Country living has shitty aspects like having to drive 20 minutes to the store. NOLA has shitty aspects like getting held up at gun point while trying to walk to the store.

Absolultey understandable a shitty aspect that could happen.
IMO the shitty aspects are the incompetent government, high taxes and insurance, panhandlers, incompetent police force, the Saints suck, the Pels suck, we have a baseball team called the fricking Baby Cakes,
Last but not least the one main thing that makes my blood boil is the fricking mini van taxi cabs that drive 60 mph in the left lane on the interstate to and from the airport!! One of these days im just going to say frick it and ram my truck into the back of one of them

Yea...there is a reason the houses are cheaper. Because living across the lake is a lifestyle choice that most of us would refuse to make.
