When I lived in Orleans parish I would get them pretty regularly.. I got a Grand Jury notice one time when I was in college. I was able to get out of it. I went down there a few times and was just amazed at all these shitasses sitting in there all happy to be chosen for a jury..
Moved to Jefferson Parish in 2008 and must have gotten at least 6 of them. Had to go once and was not chosen. PITA for work so I called and the lady said "wow you have been chosen a lot" and assured me it was all computer generated. That was about 8 years ago and only had one since and didn't have to show..

Im a felon so they don’t want my judgement. I cant serve on a jury, even though id love too. Everyone hates on jury duty, but I probably will never get to experience it!

I meant to call and give a work excuse and I forgot and years later I never heard a word. Even received other jury summons.

Do they usually send Andy or Barney?

You can do this? I'm 35 and have been called 5 fricking times! Can you really ignore it?
I mean, you can, but they always have the option of issuing a bench warrant for failure to appear.
If you don't want to go, just go online and fill out the dismissal request, or call them if you have to. I had a summons dismissed lat June and it was no big deal. It was all online and I got the reply the next morning.

I got called for the first time a year or so back in my mid 40s.
I didn't do anything but sit in a big room and play on my phone. I never even got interviewed or anything before I was dismissed.

He did not skip juror duty, but he tried to avoid being on the jury.
So, years ago, we had a juror who decided he would get out of jury duty by telling the judge he could not be partial and hated everyone. He hated injured people and hated lawyers and hated insurance companies. He was feeling pretty smug and confident that he was about to be set free, but the judge was wise to his game.
She asked him if he preferred the library or the zoo. He looked at her astonished and said he did not understand. She said, " We all must perform our civic duties and give back to the community. So I was wondering if you would prefer to assist the public library with shelving books or perhaps feeding the animals at the zoo.....that is, unless you have had a change of heart and now feel that you can be unbiased and listen the evidence and make a sound ruling."
His face was white as a sheet and he acknowledged his change of heart.
Of course, she did not have the authority to do this, but in the moment he did not want to roll those dice. Both sides agreed to kick his arse....but it was a funny moment.

Probably could tell you were racist by being a middle aged white male.

quote:me either..... i get summoned at least once every 3 to 5 years. Last time they kept me there all fricking day, saying we would need to come back the next day. at about 6pm they finally let us go and they got the jury.
I've been registered to vote for almost 39 years and I have never had a summons for any kind of jury duty. I'm not sure how that's possible.

Maybe that's why I was 2nd on the list to dismiss

I've been a registered voter for almost 30 years and that was the first and only time I've been called.

It's usually Barney.
The parish has a population of 16k people and the town I'm in has 1200 residents. They don't have a big pool to pull from.

Do you mean skipping the entire four month period or just not calling in one week or two? Big difference. I forgot to call in a couple of times but I checked in the rest of the time and showed up to the trial they called all of us for. I knew the defendant pretty well, tho so they let me go.

Once, many years ago.
A very pompous surgeon didn’t show. The judge recognized the name and sent officers to pick him up and bring him to court.

I have been in selection when they sent deputies out to corral the no shows.

I do think it is a mistake to lie out (by just fabricating an excuse) of grand jury duty if you are selected. Serving on a grand jury will give you a look into the county/city/town you live in like nothing else can. I believe that every single eligible adult should he required to serve on at least one grand jury. We really have no idea what goes on around us on any given day. The news barely even attempts to scratch the surface.

I don't know anyone that has skipped but when I went the one time I got summoned, they opened by thanking us all for coming and doing our civic duty. The way they worded it made it seem optional which kind of pissed me off.
