re: Do you know anyone that actually got in trouble for skipping jury-duty summons?

About 3 years ago I showed up for jury duty and the judge failed to get a jury quorum. He gave us a bit of review. Apparently the fine for no shows was 200 dollars but the cost of processing the arrest warrant was 350, so the judge was stymied

It isn’t supposed to be a money maker, it is supposed to be about “public service.”
If people know they can skate on this and do better than $20 for service, they will.

Guy shows up the first day for federal jury duty. He Tells the judge that he can’t serve because he has work. Judge thanked him for coming in and gave him speech on importance of jury duty and statedthe gentlemen needed to show up tomorrow for the second day of jury selection. The guy had an attitude with the judge about coming back.
Day 2 and the guy no shows. Judge issues a warrant and sends US marshal to his work. They bring the guy in later that morning. Judge puts him in a holding cell for the day. Around 4:00 the judge brings the guy into the court room and tells him he will be part of the next jury pool and to be sure not to miss.

I've been registered to vote for almost 39 years and I have never had a summons for any kind of jury duty.
You WILL be serving at least once a year going forward.

I was in college and went on spring break the same week I had jury duty in the county I went to high school. I was registered to vote in the county I was going to school so I ignored the summons. While I was away the sheriff showed up at my parents’ house to arrest me. When I got back home, my mom lost her shite on me. I went to the courthouse to show them my voter registration from the other county. They said I was fine and sent me on my way. My mom is still mad 25 years later that her neighbors saw a sheriffs car show up in her driveway.

After I moved, I didn’t change my voter registration address for almost 15 years in order to avoid jury duty. Finally had to change it after the little old blue hairs at the voting station forced me to fill out papers to match my DL.?? I’d still just ignore it.

When I was called there was a guy who worked out of state, pipeliner or something. His week off coincided with jury duty. He explained to the judge he had to be back at work next week and the judge was sympathetic but still made him stay.

Anyone who is not a total idiot can come up with a decent excuse. Saying that you are experiencing symptoms of Covid should do the trick.

I got my first summons less than a year after I turned 18 and registered. I was away at college so I got out of it though.
But I have gotten pulled at least 5 other times, and had to show up twice and sit while the perp made a plea.
If only I was as good at getting lottery numbers as I am getting pulled for jury duty.

Oh believe you me... I'm 36 and have already served on a grand jury. It was cool... but now I should be done

I got one from federal court on Poydras, about seven years ago, and the notice said it would be a 5 to 6 week racketeering criminal trial involving 20 defendants.
I called the clerk and said there is no way I can do this, and they granted me an exception because I was a sole business owner.

I seem to be on the 2 year plan. Most times we get released mid-day. Sat in one jury 2 days and as we went into deliberation end of 2nd day, he pled. What a waste of time. It was interesting and boring, but the judge was nice and also fed us. Not sequestered, just a basic drug crime. But I’m tired of going. Most recent mailed summons, I literately forgot about it and didn’t send in my responsive paperwork. Day before jury duty, I get a txt msg advising no potential jurors need to show. I guess they had all my info from previous goings. 24th JDC.

No but I've heard of people getting them delivered via certified mail to prove receipt.
I would prefer this over a post card looking notice that looks like it’s a piece of junk mail (if it even makes it to correct address in 1st place). Around time of shutdowns I received a notice that I didn’t need to show up for a summons that I didn’t even know I had received a summons and then found out this was the second one I didn’t see in last 6 months.
