Yeah and the state of Michigan has a larger population than that country.

From experience I can recommend hiring a good Jewish attorney for divorce representation.

I have a lot of Jewish friends. Lived next door to one for seven years and was introduced to all of his friends. My mom is still best friends with his mom. This was in Atlanta and I went to probably 20 bar and baht mitzvahs there.
Moved back to NOLA and went to Newman. Went to another 10 or 15 here. My friend from Atlanta ended up going to Tulane so I met all of his fraternity brothers. I know hundreds.

Of course I know one, I am one!
To answer your question, the 4th largest (as well as the oldest continuous) Jewish Community in the New World is in New Orleans. New York, Miami, and Los Angelos have more, but Uptown New Orleans has a very sizable Jewish population.
I am willing to answer any questions about Jewish culture as I came from a mixed faith marriage (father’s family was Catholics and Protestants, mother’s family Jewish).

I work in the scrap metal industry so I do business with them daily. If you see a scrap or junk yard its probably owned by a jewish family.

A close friend of mine is Jewish, she and her family are the extent of my Jewish acquaintances. I attended her child’s Bar Mitzvah and her mother’s funeral. Was interesting to get a peek into their different cultural practices.
RE: holidays
She would never be offended if someone told her Merry Christmas and she wishes others (who are Christian) Merry Christmas. Likewise, I wish her a Happy Hanukkah or whatever Jewish holiday I knew she was celebrating.
Just to clarify, did you:
- type that wrong, or
- intentionally say Christmas instead of holidays or Hanukkah?

but I definitely used the “are you doing anything for Christmas” vs. “holidays”.

used to have a Jewish fwb that's a shrink in Nola who's Jewish, a little 5'1" fireplug of sexual deviancy, she was into just bout anything and everything, I'd bang her on her office desk with a patient in her waiting room, she used to cry out "oh God" while in the throes, I'd ask her about that afterwards, she'd just laugh, hope this helps

Scruffy’s wife and in-laws are Jewish.
So, yes.

I grew up uptown in the very Catholic New Orleans in the 70s. I knew more Jewish people than Protestants. Not kidding.

Yes, I have been to a Shabbat meal and 2 of my coworkers are Jewish and from the Northeast. Neither are kosher but I have learned a lot about some of the oddities in the more strict (Conservative & Hassidic) sects.
Married women wear wigs because only her husband can see her hair
Men and women sit across the aisle in temple and there is no mingling at events between them
Women must take a traditional bath after their period and wait seven days to have sex with their husbands (most fertile time?)
After sundown on Friday night, you cannot drive a car or "break" an electrical current. If a light is on, it must remain on until sundown on Saturday. That is the reason for the "Sabbath" setting on my oven. It keeps the meal warm, but can be on for the full ~24 hours.
Silver is actually very important to the families
Abortion is ok until about 40 days after conception
They act as almost independent communities. Legal matters are generally handled internally, including crimes such a sexual assault, child abuse, etc.
Once they enter in to a community, they tend to take over. My Jewish coworker described the Hassidics as locusts
A large majority of the Hassidic community is on government assistance. The woman works and the husband studies the Torah. And they usually have a large family.
They can't have a meal that has both meat & dairy
No shellfish or non-cloven hoofed animals can be eaten
When I went to the dinner, we drove through Monsey, NY and it was like seeing droves of Amish people walking around. Plain clothed women, the curls on the side of the men's face with Yakima's. These people were definitely not the Diamond District, Hollywood or Wall Street people society makes us think of.

Do any of you south Louisiana folks remember back in the 60s & 70s a man who would buy out men’s and women’s clothing store inventory, lease a store front and open up shop for a few days ? They called him “The Jew”.
One of my mom’s friends would call and say “The Jew’s in town” and off they would go. After a few days, he was gone. But a few months later, he would be back. He always drove a big Cadillac.
