Are you planning to keep driving it for awhile? If so fix the dent, it is only 400 bucks the cost a cheap note for one month.

Shoot man, I was so broke in college and when I worked offshore, I fixed a blown AC line (high-pressure side) with hose clamps and a pressure fitting.

Held for awhile. That was on a Z-28.

That was after I got rid of the Trans-Am that had a burned valve.

Good times.

It’s personal preference. Why have anything nice if cheap/slightly damaged still functions?

Some people prefer nice things.

Is the amount I spend on it per year more than 12 payments on a new car?

You're talking about value per use.

The value per use doesn't change if he dumps 400 in it to fix the dent.

Also, a little liberal with the use of "nice things" when describing a 15 year old car in which a fixing a simple dent costs nearly 25% of it's value.

I said cost per use... not value.

A one time cost of $400 may be worth it if you have to look at a dent 4 times per day over the next few years.

I’m not saying it’s a worthwhile investment for everyone, but it sounds like OP is considering it so I vote yes.

Cynic that I am, I'd live with the dent.

Remember the old Navaho wisdom that explained why every rug they wove had one mistake in it? Because the Almighty doesn't like perfection.

One dent is barely a glitch.

That dent has a story, adds character, possibly intrigue on if it was an animal or person that left the dried tissue under the fender wheel

Yeah, but everyone in town knew it was Sam Walton driving that truck and would say "Look at that multibillionaire in that old truck". If it were you or me, they'd just be like "Look at that broke arse in his broke dick truck".

Search your heart. You know it to be true.

If it bothers you, fix it. How much longer do you plan on driving it?

People blow $400 on all kinds of dumb shite that won’t last nearly as long.

Cost per use man, go for it.

This. I just spent $1400 having an 06 car painted. The cars only worth 4-5k but I plan on keeping it.

I have a 2002 Subaru Outback wagon. We’ve had the car since 2004 at 17k miles. I just did the second head gasket two months ago at 227k miles. Dropped $2.4k for the job plus a tuneup. Car is in fantastic shape cosmetically and is a beast in the snow and rain here in the PNW.

This will be the last hg replaced as the block has some corrosion issues from using the wrong coolant. But it’ll get us to 330k miles.

We love the car and it made sense for us to take care of the old gal and keep it on the road for another 7 years or so since my sons start driving this coming year.

The good thing about having a vehicle with body damage is people tend to not park too close to you in parking lots.

You are spending zero on depreciation right now. You’d spend that $400 in less than a month on depreciation for a new vehicle.

I drive a 2007 Suburban. My daughters drive beaters until they graduate college. Then they get new cars.

If it is a front fender, get one from a pik-n-pay for $40 max. If lucky, find one the right color. If not, go to an auto paint shop and they'll get you a can of spray paint that matches. Not that tough a job. I did it on a great running car a few years ago. That think won't die.

Took me about 3 hours tops. Would have taken WAY longer if I put ALL those bolts back in.

Oh yeah. I watched a couple youtube videos. Helped a lot!
