I have found the older I get the more I choose to spend my meager income locally and supporting small businesses and products made in the USA.
When I was younger and really up into my early 30s I found myself chasing the cheapest price but as I’ve gotten older, more about where the money goes.
There is a local hardware store I’ve been supporting with my business for the past few months. I’ve ordered tons of things through them. I understood they probably don’t have the cheapest prices but they’ve been appreciative of my business. This has extended to other outlets as well...local farmers, etc. I’ve even tried to source computer repair locally rather than with the big shops (if warranty will not be affected).
Maybe Main St. is better sometimes than the magnificent mile. But who knows. I could just be ridiculous.

people who need appreciation from places where they spend that money are lacking things in their life that this helps fill the gaps.
i rather spend less of my own damn money.

I do whenever I can. Manufacturers are starting to crack down on Amazon a bit on MAP pricing to help out the little guys but they can’t do anything about the independent sellers online.

I'm increasingly becoming my parents
It's not so much American pride or thinking things made in America are better. Honestly I don't really care if it's made here, I care if it's made by a human being instead of mass produced shite made for pennies.
I'm not against technology or efficiency, but if there are higher quality products that someone puts time and effort into and which have some advantage (appearance, longevity, etc.) over the cheaply made equivalent I'll probably get it. It's probably not "worth" the difference in price but whatever.
I'm materialistic, but at least I'm romantic about it

I just see the value of keeping the dollar circulating in the local community rather than it heading out of state. I started thinking about all the avenues that dollar goes to here locally.
I would bet .80+ of every dollar I’ve spent at the hardware store has stayed in the greater LC area. I like that idea.

I’ve improved on them. So a huge portion of my furniture is American made with the exception of a buffet table from Mexico.
I good portion is Amish made and American furniture companies for the upholstery.
As a poster said, I find local and/or USA made items just last longer

I like to support American businesses, but very few things made in the US are actually made by hand. Most are automated processes and many are only assembled in the US, not made. More chinese items are hand made than US items, by far. Even US vehicles are assembled and even welded by robots. It's actually a really cool process to watch. I tend to buy the best value, not cheapest, but a combo of reliability and price.

I try to mostly shop at small local stores. Yes, its not as cheap, but it sure is more convenient and way less aggravating than going somewhere like Walmart. The better shopping experience is well worth the extra cost.

Used to buy solely on name brand when I was younger. Now I find myself purchasing based off of price, comfort, and quality.
