I've hit windows with a bat and they didn't shatter. Not as easy to break as it sounds. (I was making a car for a demolition derby, more being criminal)

Just get some ceramic off a spark plug to break the glass. Just need something harder than the glass. Usually you can find something for free to do the trick baw.

We do. My wife bought one years ago and I remember giving her grief about it.

Fast fwd a good 12 years or so and Im driving down our little old downtown 2 lane street in front of our post office. This car proceeds to cross the center lane coming directly for me. I then notice the woman convulsing and her hands im the air all jacked up. She takes an even harder turn in front my car, just misses me, hits the curb and crashes into the metal post holding a handicapp sign.
I put my car in park and ran over. She was clearly having a a seizure. I and another guy tried to get in but all the doors were locked. Her car was still in drive at this point and the engine reving. I am horrible in these situation esp when medical conditions are involved, I was freaking out.
I then remembered that damn hammer in my wifes car and came running back with it. Smashed the drivers window with 2 or 3 whacks. Got inside , put the car in park and turned it off. I let another woman who ran up on the scene and was a nurse, administer 1st aid. Looking back it probably would have been a little nicer of me to shatter the passenger or rear door window instead blasting her with broken glass, but I wasnt thinking.
Turns out another woman ran up later and knew that woman and she was prone to this, how do they get a license?
Ill never forgot that face and body actions of her looking at me seizuring about to hit me head on.
Anyway, to answer your question, that hammer is still in my wifes car but Ive yet to buy one.

I have one. One end is a pointed hammer and it also has a blade to cut a seat belt. As someone else said, probably one in a million it would be needed, but if you ever do need it to escape a sinking or burning car, you'll be glad you spend the $5.

Do they ever make cars with manual windows anymore?
My rape vans have power windows even. I can't remember the last time I've seen a crank window.

Some of those hammers are made out of aluminum and the point will just flatten if you strike tempered glass. Carry a spring loaded center punch instead.

I got one as a gift. Has a seatbelt cutter and a window smasher on each side. Stays in my driver door. Never had to use it, but seems like it would work well. I wouldn’t depend on the seatbelt cutter deal though. I’d get a pocket knife
