Do you have a lawyer?

Maybe I’m naive or just have never been involved in trashy behavior, but everytime I hear someone say, “Call my/your lawyer” or similar things I’m dumbfounded.
I’m 49 and have never needed a lawyer for anything. Do that many people in this world have a lawyer on speed dial? If I needed a lawyer for anything, I’d have to do quite a bit of looking around, asking for references because that’s not something I consider in life.
Help me out with this one, fam???

Most people don’t. Nothing wrong with that. Ideally you would have one or two you know who you could ask for recommendations. If not extend that networking to friends and family. Beware of searching online or relying on TV commercials.

I’m a senior VP, executive. No desire to be anything more. I’m talking about the common man referring to having a lawyer or whatever. Seems excessive to have that card in your pocket.

Its all about how you live your life. Leading an innocent happy life raised right, one would never even fathom having an attorney on speed dial.

I work in a field where I get threats of legal action frequently. When they say "you will hear from my lawyer" I say "of course, I will be happy to speak with your attorney, give me their name so I can know who it is when they call me". One hundred percent of the time they do not give me a name.

I have three attorneys. In 2024 I paid more than a quarter million in legal fees. Less these past two years, so far.

The trashy fricks that live in Section 8 or a trailer and like to tell people they’ll hear from their attorney do not have an attorney. It has just become the threat of choice for trash.

What's blatant is you don't see anyone saying this in your day to day activity. So, what you're admitting and referring to is you watching trashy YT/FB/TT reels or vids of police interactions with trashy people claiming to have a lawyer. That's how you spend your time. Why would a standard non divorced W2 employee ever talk to an attorney other than maybe make a will or title transfer?
