Ted Williams.
First really heard of Ted Williams from reading the 1986 Baseball Preview in Sports Illustrated when I was 15. I still have this copy in my filing cabinet.
In it, there was an article that featured Williams, Wade Boggs and Don Mattingly all talking hitting. I'd never read anything like it...never heard anyone break down hitting like that. I could not believe how these two guys revered Williams and it made me look into him more. Before long I'd read a ton about him, and learned that not only was his considered by most to be the greatest hitter in the history of baseball, but he'd lived this incredible life having been a pilot in both WWII and Korea, missing significant portions of his career to do it, and THEN became a world class fishman!
Years later Bob Costas was interviewing Williams and Costas told him, "You know, Ted...John Wayne was basically playing you in all those movies." Ted replied, "Yeah...I know."
They don't make 'em like that anymore.

I followed you with the first part. That weird soy shite at the end lost me though.

My Dad, I will never be the man he was. His integrity was off the charts.

Hakeem the Dream. I practiced his post moves all the time in my driveway.

Mark Grace.
Saw him charge the mound when I was around 10 or 11 and I thought he was the coolest guy ever.
Wow. You’re the first person I’ve ever seen mention him for anything I was in love with him when I was 12.

Outside of my family and personal acquaintances?
Michael Jordan. Loved his competitive spirit and relentless pursuit of excellence.

Mark Grace was my favorite Cub growing up watching them on WGN before the lights went up in Wrigley. His is the only jersey I've ever bought.

I wanted to have a swing like Ken Griffey Jr. more than anything in the whole world.
Besides being fun to watch, he was also a class act. Definitely a role model
