Do you go to your local high school games? Just as a fan?

I mean, when you don't have kids playing?

I have missed the days when my girls were playing high school basketball and running in track meets. Last night I went back to the basketball games at my daughter's old school for the first time since she graduated in 2020.

It was good to go back but a little strange. I did not know any of the players on either the girls' or boys' teams, although it did turn out I knew the parents of one of the girls. The girls' team even has a new coach since my daughter was there.

Other than that I knew just a few people in the stands, just a couple of teachers and a few other people who go to all the games I guess. Felt a little out of place for a while.

It didn't take me long to get into the game though.

It was easy to spot the parents though, some were yelling at their kids on the court, and I know the look of parents who are anxious for their kid to do well on the court, or just hoping they will get into the game at all. I know how it is, I been there.

Man time marches by, I remember when they started playing in the kiddie leagues in 3rd or 4th grade, next thing I knew we were out on the court with our daughter for senior night.

I enjoyed it, I think I'm gonna try and go to some more games. And try to make some of the football games next fall too.

It's a good way to get your name on the list now with the hyperattentive/political crusading parents at I S D's

If you're a parent they're good with you if you're not a parent of the kids they can get really sensitive

If you want to get personally invested in the game again sign a kid to an NIL deal

I didn’t until about 10 years ago when my son was roughly 4. To see if he enjoyed basketball.

He was hooked, so been going since and been blessed to see the most successful run in my Alma maters history

He’s picked up the game well, and will be a freshman next year. Hopefully they can sustain it

I go to one football game most years. I have a close friend that I met in college who went to a cross-town rival and we started the tradition of going to that game back in college. We still try to get back every year but life commitments get in the way sometimes.

Note the HS is not "local" to either of us anymore it's about 1.5 hours away for both of us.

I know a guy who still goes to girls high school soccer games even though his last daughter graduated several years ago. He even goes to games where neither team is his daughters’ old team. I think it’s weird.

Not really. My brother goes. Him and his son just like watching football games. His son is 21 and they go to most of the home games for the local team and will go to all the playoff games. Its a Friday night for 3 hours. I remember in HS I went to all the football and basketball games. I remember the basketball games used to have people, who didn't have kids going to school, who went to the games just because they enjoyed watching the game.

It seems like basketball has a lot of people who really like the game enjoy watching it at the HS or college level. The pros are honestly all just really so good that its hard to play defense. But there is more strategy being used in HS and college.

Why is it weird. It's a small community thing here. A lot of people from the community that don't have kids playing (more than for basketball) go to the football games just to support the team. I just happen to enjoy basketball better. But I am going back to some fb games next fall.

I graduated Chalmette High School way back in 1970 and have probably only gone to 3 Friday Night Football games since then and just out of a fit of nostalgia.

I don't think I even sat through any of the games to the end just to beat the traffic out of the area.

Back when in school I went every Friday night and can remember the band playing a lot of "Herb Alpert" music and they played "Dixie" at least 4-5 times a game. I never heard "Dixie" at any of the games I went to as an adult, or Herb Alpert music either..................

Time marches on.

Nope. Stream the game on my color TV so I don't have to congregate with the locals.

You know what I'm taking about.

Love goin to games. Like being there early enough to see the band play their way in on the track into the stands. Go see my school as much as possible and a few of the other coaches of our rec team go watch the kids we've coached as often as we can as they progress

I just go to the girls volleyball games to show my support. I sit alone, don’t talk to anyone, and take pictures. My name is Skyler.
