If you've already told them why wouldn't you have followed that conversation by e-mailing a formal resignation letter (keep it short and sweet)? A professional courtesy is a full 2 week notice period but it isn't set in stone. Sounds like you're good either way.

Holy hell some of you guys make things waaaaayy more complicated then it needs to be. Just do it now.
If you need to train someone new then you need to stay for 2 weeks or if you have a project to finish. If not and if you are going to a competitor, most of the time they will tell you to pack up and go home that day.
2 weeks notice is simply so that your boss or company can smooth the transition over between you and the new person. If that's not needed, the 2 weeks is not needed.

2 weeks in the minimum standard for employees (which is horseshite becasue employers expect it, but don't pay people they fire 2 weeks). In other words, you could come in on June 1st and tell them you are accepting a new position to start July 2nd, and your last day will be June 29th. Obviously, the longer the notice, the more likely they will send you home early.
TL|DR, doesn't matter as long as you give at least 2 weeks.

Doesn’t matter so long as you’ve signed your new offer letter and have a start date set.
If it’s a competitor expect to be walked out whatever day you hand in your resignation. You should still be paid for the two weeks you’ve put in your notice plus whatever vacation time you’ve built.

Correct!
Let the old boss sweat it over the weekend rather than ruining your own! Tell the Boss on Friday and go enjoy your now stress free weekend without dreading the Monday.

I work from home, and on the road...got back at 10 last night, as an engineer, so I'm just closing out a project that ends in June. I have a metric frick ton of work to do in two weeks. Wrapped up one project yesterday (and presented my assessment of the big task I have left), somehow I'll complete another today...then I'll two full weeks to crank out my last.
All of the RV changes on a launch pad since 2013...42 analyses (some repeat) to be PE stamped. frick.
Many sleepless nights.
Wants me to stay on doing contract work...hard to pass up the extra money...I think I will.

Hmm, i think most people do though. Even a lawyer gets billed per hours right? Even someone on salary makes x amount an hour, you just have the same paycheck whether you worked 40 hours that week or 20.

I'm confused...why would you wait until Monday? Today is 2 weeks prior to your last day, is there any valid reason to not turn it in now?

Proper letterhead
Dear boss,
Effective 6/29/2018, I will be terminating my employment with this company. It has been an honor and privilege working with X for the last X years. The experience and knowledge I’ve gained has been invaluable, and I will carry it on in my future endeavors.
Sincerely,

The f does this mean??
So you gave the boss like a "pre" heads up before you formally put in your two weeks?
I wouldn't have done it that way.
When I told my last boss about it that was my notice. I did give them 3 weeks from the date of the conversation with my boss to make it a little easier.
When you tell your boss about it, to them, the employer, THAT is when your notice began no matter how informal the conversation may seem.

Proper two weeks in writing just in case you might work with them again or need a reference. It’s called being professional.

2 weeks notice is 10 working days not 14 actual days.
Eta: as a business owner I'd much rather be told on Friday as that allows me to post the job opening for the weekend as opposed to a Monday. People can spend a lot of time over the weekend looking for something new.

Turn it in now. They already know you are leaving. I just got offered a new job today out of the blue by someone in the field that I highly respect. I might be turning in a notice soon myself.

Your choice. The employer knows that you are already mentally gone. I think the employer should give you 2 weeks pay and let you leave. You are no longer a part of the team and only a distraction.
