I see the reasoning behind your theory..... but if you applied it to both sides, all of us rocking the dad bod would never stand a chance. Don't give the opposite sex any ideas.

They are both important to me. Not equally important, but not inversely proportional either.

Pretty sure you're the guy who posted a couple of weeks ago talking about your SO and asking if she moved in or not because she's been gradually bringing over her stuff and not taking it back

So now she's moving in and gaining weight... are you sure you aren't married to this gal?

She could very well have a hormonal disorder (ex: PCOS)that makes weight loss more challenging. And what works for most other women....doesn’t work for her. Maybe she just hasn’t figured out what exactly works with her body.

quite possible

i'm sure she might retain water in an abnormal matter

but dont say that she CAN'T lost weight

get that gap of calories burned to healthy caloric input far enough, and it is a scientific fact that weight loss will occur

If you marry someone based on looks only the marriage will not last long.

In the same way that if she started to grow leg and arm hair, being with someone does not obligate you to find them attractive.

Me and mum SO have had this convo before and I know I’d put loads of weight on she’d probably leave me and vice versa. Over time you are going to let go a little bit but I don’t think it’s shallow if it’s extreme

If you make an effort to take care of yourself and your SO doesn't I don't see how there wouldn't be just a little resentment on your part

I'm guessing that there are very few women that gain weight and make no effort to lose it. On the other hand, I have several friends that have gained close to 50 lbs in the last 25 years (since we finished high school) and claim that they have no intention to ever go on a diet or start going to a gym.

Guess I'm just pointing out the 'no effort to lose it' part of your post. Everyone has differing views on what that means but nearly all women are trying multiple fad diets, starting New Year's resolutions, etc. to lose weight if they have gained some.

I've also known guys that used to be gym rats or competitive athletes and ballooned when injuries didn't allow them to exercise anymore.

I feel like if I put the effort in to do the above then I would want my SO to do the same.

Its possible she is a closet eater, but I have eaten a few meals with her and she is very conscious about it.

I do know she exercises, as the ladies will group workout together.

eta: I am somewhat on the flip side of that. It really doesn't matter too much what I eat. If I eat like crap, it will take months for me to gain weight.

It is a respect thing, mostly. If you have expectations in the realm of vanity and aesthetics, then that is something both should maintain out of respect for the other person. If you both look like a bag of potatoes, and happen to love potatoes, then do your thing.

I once had a man tell me "The things you do to get her, you gotta do to keep her. That includes looks as well as actions and personality."

Couldn't have been more right.

Johnny Sack may have been a POS but he stood by Jenny even though she was twice the woman he married.

Maybe that's what happened with Trump and Marla Maples. Marla was huge into fitness while Trump went bankrupt and gained a bunch of weight (yet said he didn't want to exercise). Marla tries to get him to lose the weight and Trump finds a different reason for divorce.

Obviously joking, I don't think women care as much about their man gaining weight. Or if they did, money would trump that minor issue.

Let's face it, a guy can gain 25-40 lbs from the age of 18-38 and it's honestly not a big deal to anyone. However, our society will not allow a woman to do the same without a few comments from the peanut gallery along the way.
