So say you marry a woman and she's fine af at the time.

Typical Arkansian problem, easily believable.

you stay fit and healthy
Simply NOT happening to an Arkansian.

Is that a good enough reason to divorce her?
You would be doing her the biggest favor of her life.

I feel like if you gain over 50 pounds from time of marriage that is not the same person you fell in love with.
You people and your "feel"s.

The takeaway is that I wish there were an Arkansas equivalent of this cartoon:

It's not an obligation but they will have to live with the consequences.

Weight is like any other issue in a marriage. You address it if it's a problem. If you ignore it and say dumb shite like "you'll always be beautiful no matter how much you weigh or what you wear," then you're just asking for it.

Any problem in a marriage is grounds for divorce if it gets bad enough and if the person you're with gives up on fixing their problems. Gambling, fatness, excessive drinking, etc.

Honesty is key. I'm honest about myself and about her. If I'm letting myself slip on things, I'm honest about it. And I'll let you tell me about it. If she starts to slip on things, I tell her. She doesnt always take it well, but I dont gaf. I'd rather address it now with a brief moment of discord than let it fester and turn into her never doing chores, or pushing 3 bills on the scale. Generally speaking we put positive pressure on each other to stay in shape and be at the gym. It's an accountability thing.

I’m currently trying to lose weight (20-30 lbs)I’ve gained since marriage.

Granted a lot of the weight gain was due to medical issues. Still....I absolutely hate how I look and feel right now. And while I know my husband loves me....I know not doing something about this now will certainly affect our marriage.

Money comes and goes
Weight comes and goes
“Happiness” comes and goes

Abuse, both physical and mental and infidelity should be the only no if ands or buts about divorce. The other “issues” are temporary and should not affect your marriage long-term. At least those mature enough to realize that.

Out of shear respect and decency you should at least make a good faith effort. Not sure how anyone can reasonably take issue with that.

No, gaining 50 pounds in itself isn't grounds for divorce.

My wife has crept up to 125 from 115 over our 18 years and a few kids. At 5’6”, I like the curvyness it adds. However, I do let her know that i’m lucky she’s genetically gifted and that I don’t know what I’d do if she’d been one of these that blew up. This is my way of encouraging her to work out even harder over the next 18 years because now that she’s 40 it’s going to take even more work to keep her figure.

But no, we’re together through thick and thin at this point. The “I’ll leave you if you get fat” mindset goes by the wayside after the first few years.

Divorce sucks horribly, so it’s not something most people can say they’d do as an absolute with something like weight.

I think it’s important for both partners to do things that will maintain respect in a relationship. If gaining weight (or drinking too much, or gambling, or whatever) is deteriorating respect, it’s very hard to get that back once it hits a certain point.

Someone else’s SO has no obligations to me. Everyone’s relationship is different. And it’s nobody’s business on why my relationship work or don’t work.

Working out won't really keep you skinny. It helps. If you are worried about your lady getting overweight, look at her mother and sister(s). If they are fat, she is prolly going to get fat.

I think a lot of them don’t see it coming. They aren’t like men who slowly get fat. A lot of them gain 50 lbs during a pregnancy and something switches in their biology that makes it difficult to drop. Men getting fat is a conscious decision and is inexcusable, imo.

I think some people got fricked by the genetic weight lottery. My wife has a friend that is probably about 25 lbs overweight. She works out every day, and watches what she eats. She just can't lose the weight.
