I’m 52 and have had a great career. I’m very thankful. I studied accounting. But there are days that I wish I could have done blue collar work and then started my own company.

I’m almost 50 and have been in the same career field since I graduated Army Advanced Training when I was 19. I retired from the military 12 years ago immediately transitioned to a civilian version of the job.
There are days where I’m not so excited about going to work. But I’ve never felt like I needed to make a change. I’m fortunate that I love what I do.

I have changed careers 4 times in 44 years, all kind of loosely related. I have enjoyed all of them until I got bored and made a change. If I were still doing the first one I would probably still enjoy it...but I wouldn't be making nearly as much money. Life is too short to be miserable but misery is very comforting to some poor souls...

Went public sector, so the pay is dog shite compared to you guys, but the retirement is great. I’ll be able to throw in the towel before I’m 55 and while not rich, It’ll take care of the basic needs like fishing and golf
Not a lawyer but it is rather depressing to think I might have to do this for 19 more years
Retiring at 55 sounds so much better, but that's not going to happen.

this is similar to what I've done. I spent 21 years in the ER, almost 10 of those also working as a flight nurse. Transferred up to the ICU 4 years ago and have loved that. I'm doing home infusions full time now, but love the ICU too much to quit that part time gig.
I also taught at a local university part time for 4 years.
One of the things I have enjoyed so much about nursing is the ability to transfer to a different department or field if burnout happens in another.

I'm happy with my job and my finances but I do wish I had a job that I could truly clock out of at the end of the day. I would love to be the starter at a nice golf course.

I'd have gotten a Forestry degree like my dad if things would have worked out differently but I had zero desire to sit in a classroom so I don't have any college credits.
I hate being inside buildings.

You know what's funny? Most people would never recommend what they do for a living to another person.
I took a lot of time off after my last company sold and closed their Bham operations. I casually interviewed people I considered successful, took the Johnson O'Connor aptitude testing along with some other testing, and talked to my family about what to do next. Less than 10% of the people I spoke with would recommend that I do whatever they were doing.
I like the basis of my job, but I need to be out of the office more. My current role is a key poking job.

I had 12 years experience in one industry. I woke up one day and decided that
It went back to school to get my MBA and am entering my 4th year in my new career that I truly enjoy.
It was not easy, but a change was necessary.
I think the main issue was at the age of 18, I was not ready to pick curriculum /career path that I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

Every day when I worked. If I was gonna work that hard, I would have put in the work for a higher paying career.

I think I more so regret my position, not what I do. I'm a director of data warehousing. Busted my arse to impress and move up to this level expecting to get out of the day to day nonsense. Nope, the way my company works there's so much timeline pressure I'm a director still doing development, along with my management tasks.
I try to think that it doesn't define my life. I get to work from home, I woke a ton of hours but I can be flexible with my schedule, I make great money.
All that said, some days I want to throw my laptop in the pond.

Most aren't which is why its valuable to have fall back skills to use. Particularly now in the age of AI and automation.
Most of us arent meant to do the same thing for decades.

I have been working seven days a week / 12 hours a day since Dec 27th. No end in sight.
Yes , I regret this shite. I make lot of money for a guy with no degree. I have two kids in college.
shite ain’t cheap these days.

Given that you are the type of person who does not check out now you probably wouldn't no matter what you are doing. Having a conscience is a burden to bear, caring about what you do and how it impacts others and how you can do it better is a positive character trait that you probably would do no matter what you did.

I try to appreciate the job I have. Many would give their right arm to have the job situation I have. I am very thankful and don't take it for granted. The grass is always greener, but I prefer to be grateful for my own lawn situation.

It's been real and it's been fun but it hasn't been real fun
