re: Do you ever feel like you are on a path to diabetes?

I was diagnosed with type II 8 years ago. I was not overweight at all. I highly recommend anyone worried about it or diagnosed to count their carbs using an app. Carbs are what kill you when it comes to diet.
Take your medicine and treat exercise like it is medicine too. Exercise and diet are key.

My great grandfather, a very slim man, was diabetic. My grandfather was diabetic. My father and all of his siblings are diabetic. I am diabetic. All Type II. I knew I was on that path. All of us developed diabetes in our 30s or 40s. By even pre-modern standards (where superfat people did not abound), none of us were significantly overweight when we developed diabetes.

Thanks the link, I think I'll give it a shot. Do you prefer liquor or beer?

Beer is a no go. That's pure sugar. Distilled spirits are totally OK, though.

You don't need a ton of discipline, but you need a little.
My advice:
1a) Don't go shopping when hungry (or tell your wife to not buy junkfood for you). If you don't have it laying around, you can't eat it.
1b) Don't snack. Just eat at meals.
2) Intermittent fasting... One very simple way to do this is to restrict all of your eating each day to an 8 hour window or less. If you can do it for a week or two, cravings tend to go away. (Example: Skip breakfast, eat lunch at noon and dinner by 8pm at the latest.)
Fasting allows your body to naturally develop insulin resistance and helps your body naturally produce HGH... It's being increasingly claimed that intermittent fasting helps to reverse Type II diabetes to the point that people say it outright cures it. Do a google search of "intermittent fasting diabetes" and a ton of articles and research will pop up.
3) Exercise. Even if it's just walking, do something.
If you don't have diabetes yet, the above changes will likely help you stay healthy. It might take a couple of weeks to a month or more, but you'll start feeling better. I don't know if the cure claims are true (There may be a point of no return after which it'll be too difficult to reverse course), but the above advice will still help you manage it.

Replace diabetes with cardiac arrest or lung cancer, then yes.

most smokers say something similiar.... about going when its my time etc....
most of them change their minds in the end I would imagine.
Stop trying to be "cool" and start eating right. (Eat VEGETABLES - Also - Nothing from a box. You must cut and cook your food - it's that simple - avoid all processed foods) You wife will think you are so cool while she is a widow I am certain.
Kids, today's lesson - Stop being cool, just be smart.

Unfortunately, I know more about this condition than you EVER will.

My brother is type 1 since he was 6, his wife is type 1, my college roommate was diagnosed type 1 while we lived together. My godfather is type 2 and he's just a fat arse. Type 1 and 2 are different and are caused by different things. Are you saying I'm wrong?

Why yes, yes I do.
- Type 1 Diabetic since 1983
Type 1 & 2 are basically two completely different animals. The type 1 produces no insulin (after the honeymoon period is over) and the type 2 still produces some with a reduced insulin response after meals. Type 1s have done nothing to bring Diabetes on themselves. Type 2, well, in many cases, is avoidable.
As far as the fat cliché, I'm 6'1 178 lbs. and have a 32" waist. Diabetes, whether it be type 1 or type 2, can largely be controlled by diet (Type 1 will still need insulin). I'm living proof of that. My a1cs for the last 11 years have been 5.2. I have no diabetes damage whatsoever, kidneys all function perfectly, triglycerides, etc. are all in the normal range as is cholesterol.
