If you are 5'9" and 190 pounds with a belly then there is almost no chance your waist is 34 inches.

He could be a 34 with a beer gut that hangs over. Some guys have all their weight in their belly. That is also supposed to be the most unhealthy weight to carry, usually not a good sign.

Here's my thing, if you are worried about this then that is reason enough to go to a doctor. Get a check up, run blood work and see what they say to do.

I am Type 2 diabetic and on blood pressure medication but I am 5'9 and weight 155 I've been thin my whole life but it doesn't matter and I know I eat junk way too often. I live for carbs.

If people on the border line of diabetes could come scrub into surgery with me to cut off diabetic toes, feet, legs I think they would be a lot more willing to change their ways.

Same thing with smokers. They try to dissuade smokers with lung cancer, but what they need to show them is what gangrene looks like.

when your doctor tells you quit doing what you are doing and change your ways or die, generally you should listen.

went in for a routine check, been a year so the doc drew blood...540 sugar 1500 triglycerides 267 total cholesterol...no symptoms, although I pissed alot, no weird feelings, nothing out of the ordinary, but I was on the way to significant health issues.

change my ways of eating, added milkthistle, red yeast rice and krill oil supplements and over a month dropped my trigs to 198, chol to 207 with Hdl going up
10 points, dropped my sugar from 540 to 140.

take that shite seriously man, all my medical field friends despise Diabetes the most because they see what it does.

If the gut is hanging over the jeans then his waist is not 34 inches. Measure at the belly button

This isn't an argument over how to measure someone's waist. The point is the dude may be wearing 34 jeans so he is going to answer that his waist is a 34. Men don't typically go around measuring their fricking waistline.

People commonly mistake pant size for waist size. Gotta measure higher.

I didn't read all of the responses but you can and you should do something about it. I didn't do anything about it and now I am on blood pressure medicine and diabetic medicine plus they didn't catch some stuff wrong with my eyes and I have lasers and shots put in my eyes for the last two years now. If you don't have diabetes or high blood pressure start eating healthy my friend. Save your wallet from all the medical bills.

I used to be that and I was right on that 34/36 border so I believe him.

I was diagnosed with type 1 at age 19. I was 5'8" and weighed 130#, so obesity isn't always a factor. Just sayin'.

Oh, and stop saying you can't do anything about it. You need to change your "eat what you want and die like a man"...unless you wanna die like a YOUNG man.

Watch what you eat (not meaning you have to be a slave to a diet), and move around more.

Your BMI is 28.1 so you are officially overweight and on your way to being obese when you get to a BMI of 30.

No because I'm not a fat slob that eats mountains of cookies, ice cream, or cake. I eat well with plenty of fruits and vegetables so no I don't worry about it.

For a diabetic you sure seem to know shite about Diabetes. FFS, Type 1 and Type 2 are not related by cause.

Amen. As a teenager I watched my father slowly kill himself from having diabetes and being obese and it all started with a sore on his big toe.

I'm surprised at the level of good advice that I've received from the O-T. Thanks...can I say, Thanks, brothers!?
