Drinking alcohol is drinking poison. Alcohol causes cancer.
Serious athletes, fitness people, body builders, etc don’t drink. It is poison.

Look, this is just my opinion, but I just don't get (or really believe) that drinking to forget or to get over sadness is a good idea.
If you are constantly doing this, then you will either 1) drink more often, or 2) will make you more depressed.
Booze just becomes an adult pacifier if you are drinking to forget.
Drinking is the very last thing that would do if I'm feeling a little depressed about something.

Speaking from experience, it's a terrible idea. It makes it worse. You end up wallowing in self pity once you get a little more than a buzz. You then keep drinking hoping you get to a point to where you feel nothing. You wake up disgusted with yourself.

Amd then you repeat the cycle. I don't recommend it.
And then you also need to drink to celebrate.
And then also to relax....

body builders
There are several 'bodybuilders' who are nothing but junkies and abuse alcohol and recreational drugs. These guys are not healthy despite their outward appearance.

Drink occasionally when I want to. No pattern of reasons.

I drank to process everyday life, which became a huge problem because I could never have just one or two beers.
Exact same here. I came of age in the late 90's when everyone was completely over served at a really young age. I drank to forget and also just out of plain boredom. It took me a long time to realize if I just have two beers, I felt crappy after and therefore continued to drink.. This should have been a huge red flag years ago. Working on 5 months. It's amazing to really see the amount of people that just don't drink. Better late than never I guess!

I've never drank to forget...but it has happened.
I drink to regulate sleep for the most part.

Same here. It took me over half my life to realize I was sleeping like shite. Needless to say, I wasn't a quick learner at all with drinking.

I only drink when I’m in a good mood, out with friends. When I’m down, I never want to drink.

It took me almost 30 years to come to terms with this and realize I just can't drink like a normal person. Which I am completely ok with.

Never drink when you are down / sad. It'll be the beginning of the end. Always drink socially to keep it fun or paired with food and you'll more than likely keep alcohol from becoming a problem. Depression and mind alternating substances never go well together even-though they seem too initially.

Why not combine the two? Drink to celebrate forgetting.

As I get older I have realized if I drink I go to sleep easily but wake up more in the early morning hours. If I don't drink it may take longer to get to sleep but I stay asleep.
