Yes, my cross country coach in high school made sure everyone double knotted before a race started so I started doing that all the time.

So, I use a modified double knot. You don't knot the loops twice, but you loop them twice in a single knot. They stay tied and you can still just pull the tag ends to untie it.

Double knotting is a waste of time and looks like crap. The time it takes to untie a double knotted shoe could be used to learn the Berluti or Parisian knot.
