This is a poll from two years ago but 46% of Marylanders said they are a Northern state while 38% of Marylanders consider it a Southern State.

quote:

In a debate that dates back to the Civil War, Marylanders are still divided over whether they identify as part of the North or South. The North wins – again – in a squeaker, with 46% saying they consider Maryland a Northern state to 38% who consider it a Southern state.

Just living in the area, I've always considered Maryland to be a Northern state. We have a lot more in common with northern states like Pennsylvania and New Jersey than states in the deep south. What do you guys think?

They sprinkle seasoning on their crabs after cooking. They are Northerners.

It was a southern state.

Mason-Dixon Line? Slavery?

Currently, who knows.

Historically it was a southern state. Slaveholding, prevented from leaving the Union by imposition of martial law. It became urbanized in the 20th century, part of a larger trend which rendered the North-South distinction meaningless, eg, Georgia is southern, Atlanta is not.

South of the Mason-Dixon Line.

Did not secede, but a slave state.

Season crab shells, not crabs themselves.

Love them some Maryland flag and lacrosse.

This and the only way to fix that would be the Cajun Navy head there and knock up ever legal age women.
