I buy the cheapest at Home Depot and change it every 30 days. Our AC guy said whatever you are doing, keep doing it since the unit was so clean when we changed it out.

1 month. 3 month in winter and 1 months during peak summer. The higher the rating filters strains your A/C.

Put them on your Amazon subscription, set them up for once a month delivery.

This is actually true. The dirtier your filter is the more it filters - all the way until it filters 100% and doesn’t let anything through.

A guy who worked on the AC in my house recommended against getting really “good” ones. He said the AC unit would struggle to pull air through it even on day 1 and it would just get worse over time. He recommended going cheap and switching monthly.

I have read these high MPR/MERV models make your ac work harder.

I backed off using those...ACs are damn expensive these days...

I recently bought one by K&N that is reusable. You just hose it off when it’s dirty. Haven’t got to that point yet, but seems to be working goo

We had one at work. It started smelling musky after a year. Just letting you know.

+1

Stuff like this doesn't work on a calendar, it's about when it gets dirty. And that depends on individual situation.

Check it once a month until you get a feel for it. Replace when dirty.

And as others said, high high MERV is going to restrict air flow - that might cause problems and/or lower the efficiency. I go cheap, good enough for me.

I run mine 6 months then flip them over and run another 6 months. After the first 6 months only one side is dirty. Might as well use both sides.

You should use their cleaning solution before rinsing with running water. I bought two, so as I clean one I can use the other one allowing the washed one to thoroughly dry.

I use a woosh air smart filter. It measures pressure drop and just sends one when needed. Pretty awesome

Christ man, your time has value. Filters vary in their longevity based on a number of factors, but having to go into the attic every 30 days vs. every 60+ ish days in Texas is worth extended life filters.

You're supposed to change those?

Nah, just turn it around to use the other side if it gets a little dirty

My AC guy told me the same thing. He saw I had a pleated filter and he asked me" Do you sleep with your head under a blanket?". He said it made your unit work much harder. Buy spun fiberglass and keep them changed.

Women insist baws buy ULTIMATE POWER MERV 33,000 filters. You should only buy filters for your unit that match the recommended MERV rating. If it's MERV11, buy MERV11.
