Just keep flying the airplane. Aviate, navigate and communicate.

Not the entire canopy but I had a door pop open on a C172 once; thankfully I was just practicing pattern-only, landed and fixed it with no further ado. I did add “push on the door instead of trusting the latch” to the checklist, though. The slipstream pulls outward & makes it almost impossible to close in flight, although I later learned (in theory anyway) that you can slip into the opened door side and get it closed.

I have a Cessna. The door latches are shite. But who cares? There’s 100 mph of wind keeping the door against the fuselage.

You have to latch it. Treat it like your snatch.

That’s a glider. I’ve seen this happen a couple times.

That’s an extra. See that throttle in her left hand? Notice the g pull at the end of the runway? Gliders don’t normally do high power takeoff’s. That’s a highly aerobatic plane. Not flown by amateurs. No doubt she has many thousands of hours under her belt.

I have a sliding canopy on mine. It opens to the rear. I have taken off without it locked, but luckily the airflow over it makes it impossible to open in flight.

Never had it happen, but apparently it can be a huge distraction for some pilots. You have to remember to keep flying the aircraft, first and foremost. Aviate, navigate, communicate, in that order of importance! This was a canopy opening, but similar to a door opening on the plane while flying.

I ain't no pilot but definitely noticed she did not panic at all and seemed like she was very well trained like a professional/military pilot.

I had the door pop open on me about 100 feet off the ground after takeoff.

On my checkride. Fun stuff

Those Cessna 152’s are notorious for the doors opening. It’s basically a lawnmower with wings

If you open the right side door you can get even more right rudder tho

A male pilot would have gone on and finished that flight.
Also, it's typical of a woman to not pay enough attention to insure the canopy is latched properly. No telling how much those repairs will cost.

I tell my kids this phrase in the car when they’re trying to get me to engage with them in the back seat while I’m driving first I gotta drive, then I need to figure out where I’m going, and then I can get to you…in that order. Easier to say “aviate, navigate, communicate” and they overlook the fact that I am not in fact flying an airplane lol

We used to have a plane that the door would pop open on but that’s a far more traumatic circumstance in the video.

Use to fly a bonanza that had a door that would pop open occasionally right after take off. It would open about 3 inches - couldn’t close it, just had to circle back around and land.

See? Those World War One fighter pilots don't look so dumb now by wearing those goggles and leather helmets, do they?

If it was on the right side I wouldn’t put it past the DPE doing it on purpose
