I thought only gay people used that term, but this kid was about 25.
Do you think gays have a minimum age or something?

Do straight young people use the term 'partner'?

I’ve been told that the term “spouse”, “wife” or “husband” is hetero normative and thus evil for some reason.

A young, straight, conservative male never uses the term. The more of those qualifiers you remove, the more likely it is for a person to say it.

That's a liberal term to help with all the queers. Still husband wife, boyfriend girlfriend here.

No, but I was thinking basically what these two posters said:

It’s a new effort for straight people who are “allies” to use a common word so when gays refer to their partner, it’s been normalized and doesn’t out them as gay

Younger libs are nuts. I've never been told these things, but those are the types of thoughts I imagined a diseased mind might have.

Anytime I hear partner, I think they are gay or liberal.

True, if a 56 year old guy has been dating a 54 year old woman for 3 months, what should he call her? I can see girlfriend referring to a woman in her mid-50s as a bit awkward.
But partner has strong connotations of being a try-hard ally.

The term partner is for English cigarettes.

It is more of gay or British thing, but it does seem to be increasing with people wanting to fit in.

It’s common for people who are unmarried but who are in serious long term relationships.

Yes and it confuses the frick out of me. I have a lot of 20 something year old providers and I have no idea who's gay and not.
