I'm reading about the Notre Dame fire on twitter and end up reading the comments of all the lefties that are blasting Trump for his pretty tone deaf tweet (what's new) about the fire.

In the comments was a girl from Puerto Rico who says something along the lines of Trump being tone deaf and insensitive when he visited Puerto Rico after their recent tragedy (I honestly didn't know they had a tragedy but she says they did so I will take it at face value). She closes her tweet by saying "Who would say something like that to 3.5 million American citizens."

Is it wrong that my immediate reaction was to want to reply to her tweet that Puerto Rico isn't really part of the USA?

I didn't reply to her cuz I didn't want to end up in a twitter argument over the semantics of what Puerto Rico actually is in relation to the US but it definitely caught me off guard to see a Puerto Rican refer to herself and her country as "American Citizens".

PR folks want to be citizens when it is time for free money.

The rest of the time they love to carry on about their independence.

American citizens aren’t necessarily Americans, and I’m pretty sure Puerto Rican’s don’t consider them selves Americans.

Well they are actually American citizens, so it would be silly to argue that they aren't.

Clarify this. That is an interesting concept.

They've been US citizens since around 1920.

I'm not sure if this is sarcasm.

Are you seriously asking this?

If that catches you off guard, wait till you find out that everyone born in Puerto Rico is an "American Citizen" at birth.

Well that's the same thing that this girl is implying.

Are they really citizens? I mean they don't have the right to vote on the President (no electoral college votes for them) and they don't get representation in congress so what makes them citizens?

She's referring to the hurricane that they can't recover from because they pissed away most of the relief money via political corruption. It's basically the reason they're essentially a third world country and will remain so forever.
