My pop just liked people's stories. Some people believe in Karma, and they do it for their own benefit.

Yes, mostly in 1990 during the summer. It was a popular method of travel for the workers at Yellowstone National Park.

I've picked up a guy who was waiting at a bus stop in the pouring rain one day. It was about 7:30am and I figured he was on his way to work. He was and I dropped him off. He was super grateful and it made me feel good to help him out. He didn't look like a pyscho or anything.

Haven’t seen a hitchhiker here in the U.S. that I can recall in 20+ years. Back in the 80’s and 90’s we’d see them from time to time but sure as shite never picked one up. lol

Been to Alaska a couple of times in the summer, but not yet in the winter. Looking forward to checking it out covered in snow.

Word has it that my Great Grandad seems to have picked up one too many. He took the team and wagon to go to town (19 miles away) one day and neither he, the team or the wagon were seen again. Probably dumped his body in the river and kept on driving. Team and wagon were worth some money back then as well as the cash that he took to buy supplies. The odds of a stolen rig being seen and identified were pretty slim back in the 1880's.

New Years Eve 1992, hitch hiked from Bourbon Street to P'cola @ 2 AM. Not my best decision.

At some point the odds changed. The hitcher is a disgusting bum and likely serial killer 9 times to 1 against just a down on your luck gentle soul. And the people who pick them up are weirdos and likely serial killers 9 times to 1 against a big hearted good Samaritan.

My MIL (no pics) grew up in Los Angeles in the 50’s and picked up a Marine hitchhiking back to San Diego. They are still married.
She also hopped freight trains.

I saw a girl walking down Louisville Ave in Monroe when a lightning bolt hit a power pole right next to her. It scared the hell out both of us. I circled back and asked her to jump in. She did, and I ended up driving her to a video bingo place,. This one was closed so I ended up driving her to another one across town. She was an obvious meth head but was harmless.

Have you here hitchhiked or picked up a hitchhiker?

I saw people trying to hitchhike when I was in South Africa recently. Otherwise have hardly ever seen it in the states.

All the time in destin

If you live in destin long enough, you begin seeing the same homeless type people all the time (who are all super nice and friendly) and if they need a ride from a location you bump into with at.. they’ll ask if I’m going toward Walmart (for example) and if I am and not in a hurry I’ll give ‘em a ride down there. They are harmless and just trying to get by

Some years back I picked up some early 20s blonde gal walking alongside the interstate. She had apparently gotten into a fight with her lesbian lover who kicked her out the car.

So she I guess planned to continue walking like 50+ miles to where she lived.

I had just left sonic so I gave her my full coke to drink and she drank it fast as frick and I pulled up her address in my gps and started heading there.

She frickin fell asleep on the ride there. Trusting stupid or just incredibly tired, I couldn't tell. Anyway I woke her up when we got there and she got out and told me bye. No thanks or anything.

Felt nice to help someone out but it was a weird experience overall.

I have been tempted to stop other times but people are legit crazier now and I wouldn't feel comfortable unless I was packing heat. Karma isn't real and you likely to get punished for the good things you do.

I've spent two weeks at JBER and two weeks at Fort Greely, but both in the summer. I would love to live there, but never experienced it in the winter.
