Do Most Major Cities Have An Expiration Date?

History tells us that many major cities throughout time that once flourished have the potential to crumble. Are we witnessing this in our lifetime? Babylon once the world largest city in 700 b.c. now merely ancient ruins. In 200 a.d. the largest city was Rome which flourish with exhilarating gladiator fights and unique architecture. Today it remains a place full of relics and sightseeing but hardly a bump in the sky when comparing populations to other major cities (currently 2 million). Are we seeing the end of large major cities in the US? Will residents flee to the beloved suburbs to pursue a better life after they burn their own to the ground?

There are a few cities in Germany that have died, gone to hell, recovered, and are now thriving. Think about the history of a place like Berlin.
Cities are essentially semi-artificial super-organisms.

It wouldn’t surprise me at all, for example, for a New Orleans to have heavy police presence on Canal Street and downtown and the rest of the city just crumble into obscurity and poverty.

Hard to make a general rule, but I do think most things have a life cycle. Empires, nations, suburbs, why not cities.
But i don’t think the end of big population cities is near. Some cities will shrink, some will grow.

Some cities will flourish while others will decline, survival of the fittest and most innovative. Unless all jobs go remote, I dont see some mass exodus from cities altogether. You will see more things like succession movements (St. George) and the growth in suburbs in so.e of these places.

Everything has an expiration date. Even in a best case scenario humanity itself is going to end one day. But barring a huge catastrophe like global nuclear war these changes will tend to be more gradual and not something that is really witnessed over a lifetime. It certainly isn't due to the bullshite that y'all are bitching about.

It's the same in America. There's a reason why city centers are the most expensive places to live. It's because they are the most desirable. That assertion is critically fricking stupid.
