I started playing Ozzy for my 3 boys 4 and under after his death. I'm not even a huge Ozzy/Sabbath fan and otherwise they listen to classic/pop rock and Texas Country.
My oldest now screams for "scary music" in the car, and the little ones headbang to it.
Now they're demanding "scarier daddy!" and I'm like, I've exhausted my expertise here, am I supposed to put on Gwar or something?

My kids grew up on sea shanties, western ballads, weird al and Snoopy Vs the Red Baron.
They've branched out but a lot of it is stuff from
My past.
At least it's not that stank booty twerk-jerky.

My daughter loves my music and shits on most popular music nowadays.

My daughter was singing along to Motörhead last night in the shower. She’s nine.

My old man tried that and I broke his jaw.
Lesson learned.

three transistor radio and spare batteries was the way to go in the 60's. Late night radio was real.

My oldest is a freak about the Beatles and Queen, and he recognizes that good good.
He also realizes that the 90s was the glory days of music and that any gen x loser who disagrees is probably gay.

We are pretty open to all music in my house. My wife and I are both musicians and have a wide appreciation. Our son does too.

My daddy listened to country only. He listened to whatever country station Pall Harvey came on. The few times he would drive the family car, we listened to WFMF. He didn't really bitch about it.
I used to hide rap music from him because he would have gone nuts on me for listening to it. Around my mom I didn't care as much she would just say "I can't believe you are listing to that crap". A few times she would say "that's why they act like they do"..
I remember one time listening to R Kelly's first album and she came in my room for something and after hearing it for a little bit she said "that's why they have so many god damn kids"..
But I don't ever remember either of my parents saying anything about music being better when they were younger.

Please don't. I'm still traumatized by that station.

Just like me to my father, and my father to his, my son has played some of the most awful shite imaginable. Mumble rap is horrendous.

My parents both had great taste in music. They weren't keen on gangster rap but otherwise had a great CD and record collection that focused on 1960's rock, both British and American, and also had plenty of other stuff. Classical, prog rock 1980's, the occasional pop record, some russian early 20th century classical...
It was a small price to pay for not listening to tupac and biggie loudly around the house.

My dad would ask me about the meaning of songs. First one I can remember was “Fire and Rain”. He’d tell me to shut up until the song was over, then he’d ask me to explain what it meant.
I find myself doing the same thing with my kids.
