Do any of you own any fine fountain or dip pens?

I am thinking I would like to own and use a nice dip pen for my correspondence. Any brands liked by the OT?

Thanks!

I don't use them anymore, but I have Pelikan, Sailor, Esterbrook and TWSBI (and LAMY) fountain pens. I worked for an attorney in college who was huge into pens and she gave me a couple and I picked up some on my own. All but one (one Lamy) are really good. The Pelikan/Sailor/Esterbrook are heirloom/collector quality pens, although they range from fairly inexpensive to very expensive so it varies.

Have you looked into a nice Calligraphy set? They have the pen and several different nibs for varying widths of ink lines from fine point to wide point.

Amazing what you can do with the right pen and nibs.

I feel like I have said this 100 times here... but you ask.

I was given the ubiquitous Montblanc Meisterstuck fountain pen in black and gold as a gift when I graduated college. I took every note in law school (pre-laptop era) with it and I signed every letter and document I generated in practice for the last 27 years with it. I much prefer to write with a fountain pen than any other type. I do think a dip pen would dry me nuts though. As an aside, if you get a fountain pen I suggest using bulk ink vs the cartridges. At least with the Montblanc is flows so much better but there is a knack to filling them correctly.

I have my great-grandfather's Sheaffer's pen. I don't really use it, but it's a nice desk piece.

I use a .7 normally, but recently I used a .5 and I really want to make a full time switch.

Uni-Ball Signo really is the GOAT. 0.5 is the best, although it can be hard to find. A lot of the pen-obsessed people use the .38 which is way too scratchy IMO.

Anything that'll take a G2 can use it with slight/no modification (Tactile Turn, Karas Customs, etc.)

because of my work, sometimes I need to lay down a fat line of ink for a sketch. .05's would be to scratchy I think.

I used a cheap one in high school in the 90s until they banned them because people would flick them and the ink would spray everywhere.
