DIY Pest Control

Have walls open in home due to remodel and wanted to spray something before putting up sheet rock to help deter pests. Prior to remodel we would get tiny ants in spring and summer if it rained a lot and we occasionally have large cockroaches which are due to our large oak trees outside. Any suggestions of something I can spray on the open studs and outdoors around the house that could have a long lasting affect? TIA

I don't think there is anything long lasting. They do make some pesticide lines that you install in your walls and hook up outside of your house that you use instead of spraying inside. May be something to look into? Still have to do that quarterly or whatever though.

I don't know of anything for bugs, but to deter mice, it's good to put cats in your walls. Usually one cat for every ~15' of linear wall will do.

This! It will help for 2-3 years, you will still get the insects but they will die pretty quickly. Only option for continued DIY is to use a product like this or Taurus SC around the house every 5 years.

Talstar kills everything, spray that in there and anything alive that it touches will be dead in 20 minutes

I'm looking for recommendations too. I don't have open walls but these big roaches are out of control at my house. I usually see two or three each night.
I'm a clean person but it's embarrassing when I am trying to entertain a Tinder and a roach scurries across the living room. It makes me look like I live in a pig sty.
I tried Black Flag but it doesn't seem to work. New roaches seem to be coming in every night.

boric acid or a good brand powder insect poison and cover every one of the bottom 2x4's along the floor inside the wall completely.
thats the best you can do and that powder will last and keep on killing bugs that crawl on it for as long as it is there

Getting them once they are inside is okay but once you reach that point you need to focus your efforts on keeping them from getting in to begin with.

just make sure you provide them with kitton mittons

They're just harmless palmetto bugs.

Light your house on fire. Will help with everything but moths

you don;t want anything long lasting. If you want to DIY pest control, go get some Demon WP and spray outside perimeter every quarter. You can do inside under sinks and such too

We you say “outside perimeter”, are you spraying right next to the slab? If not, what distance away?

You control pests with one of these.
