BATON ROUGE — Just a few weeks after WBRZ reported that Blue Bayou would not open for the 2025 season, park ownership said Monday that Dixie Landin' Theme Park is closing permanently.

The park's Facebook page announced that it would closed for the 2025 season, but the park's owner Sam Haynes Jr. said that the theme park would be closing permanently due to a "lack of attendance."

He says he does not plan on reopening the park but has plans to reopen Blue Bayou next year.

When asked if he intends to sell the property, Haynes said "that's all I have to say."

The announcement came only a day after the park's Facebook page invited potential parkgoers to spend a weekend at Dixie Landin'. The park opened on May 23.

"Weekends are soooo much fun at Dixie Landin Theme Park. Come see for yourself!" the Facebook post made Sunday at 7 a.m. said.

On May 14, the theme park and water park's Facebook page removed all mentions of Blue Bayou from its public profile.

we'd really need someone with frick, you money to come in and take it over, just as a tax write off... i'm sure a water park, with regulations and red tape, is likely a fricking nightmare to deal with, but someone rich enough to not give a frick about profits, etc, that's about the only hope for that place...

sucks, b/c it can be a fun place, but just needs better owners and management

I've heard rumors that the water park is in the process of being sold.

When prices go down…you bring in a crowd you don’t want around.

Honestly as an adult I don't see the appeal of a ride park in the Louisiana summer. A water park, sure. But walking around sweating profusely, waiting in line while the sun fries you, sitting in a hot metal ride seat while a hot safety bar secures you in. That's a no for me dog.

All of the themed parks in Orlando don’t seem to have any issues. It’s just as hot there as Louisiana

yeah, i didn't see that idea of no waterpark, but theme park staying open as a viable business strategy... 1st off, the place is more known for the waterpark, clearly... 2nd, the themepark is an afterthought, a way to drive revenue in the evening, once the waterpark has closed for the day... 3rd, it's not like it's a great themepark anyway, with nothing really thrilling about the rides there...

not sure exactly where it all went wrong (keep all the race themed comments to yourself) for them, but somewhere along the way, bad business decisions were made and here we are...

A water park like that can print money during the summer in the South. You run into problems these days with a lack of kids looking for summer work (especially to the point of getting a lifeguard cert) and owners not realizing that you have to eventually put money back into maintenace.

It’s all been downhill for the park ever since they got rid of the chain smoking monkey.

no one wants to brave the summer heat for Dixie Landin

the water park is easy money but I can imagine hiring qualified workers is a pain especially with potential liability if an accident should happen

Hope it doesn’t sit there for years and be an eye sore along I-10 like Six Flags in Nola. I bet it does though.

They have a different level of investment and the majority of the main rides board and unload inside or in the shade. The line ques are also usually in the shade or inside. plus they all have the total emersion aspect that places like Dixie landing completely lack. Sure the rides are fun but the parks in Orlando profit because of the the euphoric ambiance.

nah, the land is too valuable. Unless the owner goes full retard on the price, I think it gets sold to a developer.

When do we start the Buckees rumors?
