I have to travel throughout the summer across about 18 different states. Planning to use Waze to keep from getting too lost.

Do the laws leave exceptions for mobile use of maps while driving?

Update: Welp, got caught in a speed trap in WV. Got the speeding ticket. Oh well. Not mad about that. What I am mad about is that I got a 2nd ticket for Waze on my phone. When I got hit with the lights, I took the exit, which was right there, I to the well lit road side gas station. While he asked for my DL/insurance/registration, my Waze lady piped up with a route update-while my phone was mounted in the holder. I had paused Pandora but I guess I didn't consider a potential re-route coming...He heard it & let me know that "in HIS county, driving while on a cellular phone was illegal. No exceptions."
$250.

I'll be showing up to court to appeal. Damn The Man!!!

I think I'm gonna reroute my trip
I wonder if anybody'd think I'd flipped
If I went to L.A., via Omaha

Just get a mount. There’s cheap magnetic ones you stuck in your AC vent for like $5.

Why not just use a GPS?

If there is an accident or traffic jam, then you can pull out Waze.

Get a good magnetic phone stand or something, you'll never get pulled over for phone use with both hands on the wheel

I always wonder how people who have to ask such stupid questions manage to make it through life.

"Would you believe this man has gone as far
As tearing Wallace stickers off the bumpers of cars.
And he voted for George McGovern for President."

"Well, he's a friend of them long haired, hippy-type, pinko figs!
I betchya he's even got a commie flag
tacked up on the wall inside of his garage."

"He's a snake in the grass, I tell ya guys.
He may look dumb but that's just a disguise,
He's a mastermind in the ways of espionage"

Waze still works if you turn off your screen. If it's telling you to drive 400mi on one road, you don't need your screen on for 400mi

Yes, you're right. I'm a fool for worrying about laws across state lines that I'm not familiar with. Also, there's never been over the top troopers, sheriffs, or street cops who flex on non-locals to drive up ticket revenues. No, that never happens.

I'm so grateful for your anonymous message board criticism. Bless you, sweet prince.
