I wonder what Katrina would have done to it. I assume Camille in '69 had no bearing on the Orlando decision?

Florida had affordable, tropical resort status back in the day.

It's a different place now.

Thank you for posting this. It's only been posted a few hundred times before.

I learned about it first from a thread on this site years ago. The Disneyland thread reminded me of the story.

I apologize deeply sir and will make sure it never happens again. I am just honored to be the recipient of attention from a wizened TD.com vet and celebrate the generous contribution you have lent to this otherwise stale topic.

I am strongly impelled to follow through with self-imposed corrective actions so as to prevent ever finding myself on the barrel end of another embarrassing dress down. I am also very open to direction.

I salute your use of sarcasm, you are a man who understands that understated incisiveness and hyperbole go together like motorized grocery carts and ebt cards.

I promise you, and the board's patronage in toto, if ever again I find myself entertaining a notion of starting a topic, I'll recall this humiliating episode and make absolutely sure that a topic is unassailably fresh before posting. I was on the fence before, but henceforth it shall be my resolved policy to bump the most recent thread covering any given topic yielded by a thorough vetting process/ google search. Furthermore, I shall do so regardless of the length of time that has passed since the OG thread was last active.

Even if it did happen think about how expensive things would be. No one would be able to afford to live here.

Edwards came into office in 1972. Disney had bought the Kissimmee property in the early to mid 60's. He bought it using dummy corporations so he would not have the Disney name leveraged against him.

He used LA and VA, acting like he may go there, so FL would give him more tax incentives. It was NEVER going to LA or VA. He played all of the states against each other and got huge tax breaks by doing so. An early version of Epcot was being built already, in 1966, when Disney died.

The guy who developed pier 66 (Phillips 66) wanted to build one in LC and give it to the city after 10 years as long as the name stayed with it.

Everyone here wanted a fricking kickback. When his plane landed from bringing locals to one of his other developments he told everyone to piss off this was not about kickbacks and hailed his arse.

Pier 66

My father was a good friend with a guy who was on the plane. He said most of the worthless local political fricks we're trying to hustle $$ for themselves the entire flight back. Pissed the ole boy off.

Real Tort Reform

Without that, Louisiana stays in the high 40s in business measurables.

“Tort” is a stupid word that doesn’t convey what it means.

Might as well say Real Ajax Reform.

would’ve closed so quickly in La. we can’t have anything nice. I saw that Orlando was the most visited tourist destination in the entire world last year. Imagine if that crowd came through nola how many would be mugged or shot

Imagine the traffic of an extra 30 million visitors in Nola

Real Ajax Reform is needed.

On this point I am steadfast as Gibraltar.

Disney wanted to build his park between BR and NOLA. Good ole baws scared him away.

So the Northshore is between NO and BR now?

That was a smart move by Disney. Before DW, Orlando was town surrounded by orange groves...

My knowledge was garnered verbally. I know someone that was in state government in LA back then. He was part of the team that tried to bring Disney here. They later realized it was all a farce. Disney was setting up Reedy Creek, etc. years before he ever began negotiating with other states.
