Dirty John: The Drug Addicted Scam Artist

Anyone followed this story? There is a Bravo series that is based on Dirty John, called 'Dirty John'. His name is John Meehan and in October 2014 he got out of jail and two days later he was going on a date with this woman (Debra) he met on an online dating site/app.
He tells her he is a doctor, etc, etc. Four months later he convinced her to marry him. Her daughters thought something was up with him and it caused problems between Debra and her daughters relationships. There is more details, but come to find out, this dude had conned a bunch of women. He was married several times. He brought one woman he was dating, to Mexico with him where he OD'd, she went back home, left him there. When she got home she somehow got in touch with his first ex-wife who told her how he was a drug addict, etc..
His first wife learned who he really was through his mother and sisters, who she never met. He told her that his family had problems and that he didn't really talk with them. This woman he met, who was from Brazil, was a wealthy woman who was an author some shite. He convinced her to transfer $37M into his account.. But was able to undo the transaction right after and when he didn't get the money, he went nuts. This is a link with some of his story.

Podcast was good but the voices and diction on the wife and daughters made me want to go kill them. Also that wife was an idiot

I listened to all of the podcast episodes during the holidays. The whole story is pretty bonkers. I didn't spoil the story and look up the conclusion, and I did not expect the ending as it happened.
I recommend it to people if they like true crime or even just a compelling story to listen to.

I usually downvote your posts but my wife told me about this and I thought it was fake. I read a 6 part series with the podcast and it blew my mind. That story has it all.

Podcast is way better than the mini series. Both make you shake your head at what a total dumbass the mom is.

I watched the Bravo series. It's pretty fricked up. The stupid chick had already been married 4 times, so not sure why she expected No. 5 to be a winner.
The premise is that "this could happen to anyone" when it actually couldn't. There were alarm bells that should've been going off on their first date.

Well, he did go after a certain type of woman. Wealthy single/divorced women. He conned what? 8 or 9 different women? But Debra.. Her daughter was suspicious of him right away and she ignored obvious signs. Like when her daughter but a tracker on the car to see where he was going. The fact that he wasn't really a doctor. Pretty big red flags and she just ignored them.
I just couldn't understand how someone who ran a successful business could be so naive.

Yep. The wife gets a show to make us watch, and I get a show etc etc. We watched it. Despite a pretty B production the main two actors were decent at their jobs. The story was pretty f'ked up, especially b/c it was mostly true. We watched the follow up story of the actual people involved. As far as you can tell, it's a pretty apples to apples story vs reality deal.

They dated and he tried to make her pay all kinds of money to keep him from releasing nude photos. He sent them to her family and went to jail. Met Debra a day or two after getting out of jail. He had a shitload of restraining orders.

I saw that, but how did he get access to her? I know he had a nursing license or something, but was he working at the hospital she was in? It seemed like he had already been in enough trouble that he wouldn't have been about to get a job, but he was able to get to her, told her he was her anesthesiologist...

I’m not sure either but he did wear scrubs everywhere he went.
