frick that!

When we have a party, I expect to foot the bill and clean up. If someone offers to bring something and/or help clean up I accept, but never expect it and would NEVER ask for money.

Pay the 30, then grab a bottle from his liquor cabinet on your way out and say “thanks”

I think this is why no one's ever come for dinner at my house. I've invited a lot of people but no one ever accepts.

I would’ve given it, then walked back in and grabbed the pan of green bean casserole, mac & cheese and turkey, then walked the frick out.

I love this website. I’ve been hit up to cover a portion of 3 different hosted events this month.

Mind you I’ve hosted 2 events this month myself and wouldn’t want a single dollar from anyone. Because that’s how you host.

but understandable.

Absolutely not. Don’t host a party you can’t afford.

Wtf?

As a good host you assume all the reasonable costs.

As a good guest you should always bring gifts, food, offer to help.

But you never, EVER ask for payment, unless it was somehow specified beforehand.

That’s crazy to me and completely ruins the dinner party honestly, especially if not talked about beforehand. I think socializing and the norms of it have completely been lost in the internet age

Should have given him a bill for $40 for providing entertainment. Then just told him to call it even. See you at Christmas.

I hate that he asked but maybe you should have offered.

If I invite people over to eat and drink I’m not asking anyone for anything, the thought of someone doing that makes my skin crawl.

My brother is getting married. Not all of the events are this month. I’ve just been hit up from them all this month.

Right!? It’s anathema to good hosting etiquette. And if you do have some conditions like bring a dish or BYOB, you specify it in the invite
