I know they have a lot of old people there but other than that, is it possibly a different strand there compared to other places? Why are we not seeing the same numbers across the globe?

FIFY. Which makes it all the more remarkable this is happening in the far more prosperous Northern Italy.

Because they have an older population, mostly old people are going in to get tested, resulting in a higher death count and higher severely ill count. If they tested the entire country, I'm sure they would have a massive increase in cases but a substantial decrease in morbidity, just like every other country.

Italians have big families with lots of old people living in close quarters that open mouth kiss when they greet each other.

And Italy is gross.

I’m thinking cooler weather in the North is more conducive to spread?

I honestly have the feeling a big problem is the tons of "migrants" who are in/passing through Italy that are homeless/not educated. That cannot be helping.

Its killed 16 people under the age of 60 there. I’d put money that all 16 had an underlying condition.

They don’t have as many ICU beds as America, they have an older population, and they live in closer to contact to their neighbors than america so its more easily spread. Not even to mention the fact they greet with kisses much of the time.

Don’t let that prevent you from fear shopping though

Densely populated country, popular travel destination from all over the globe, lot of old people living there in close proximity, etc.

I think our numbers as far as positive results are going to be close to theirs once more testing is done. I don't think our mortality rate comes close to theirs, just the positive results.

Iran is getting it pretty bad right now as well.

I read that Italy has a significant lack of ICU hospital beds, & doctors are having to choose who they are treating and who they are turning away.
