I'm sure smoking has a lot to do with it.
Olive oil in diet got to count for something.

Another reason is they go around kissing strangers as a greeting. I always thought that was weird af.

the country is on near-lockdown, with citizens ordered to stay at home except for travel to work and other necessities. All shops except food stores, pharmacies, newspaper stands and tobacconists have been closed.
Holy shite. I knew Italians smoked a lot, but damn. Gotta get those priorities straight.

I know they have a lot of old people there but other than that, is it possibly a different strand there compared to other places? Why are we not seeing the same numbers across the globe?
1) Italy has the 2nd oldest average age of any country
2) Over 100,000 Chinese have moved there
3) The virus started there from Chinese nationals visiting
4) Italy didn't take it seriously at first

Is the 100k moving there been proven true?

100,000 Chinese / 5,000 workshops = 20 workers per shop
And those are 2013 numbers
quote:
PRATO, Italy (Reuters) - Shen Jianhe lost both her job and home when Italian police shut down her garment factory in the Tuscan city of Prato.
By day, the 38-year-old mother of four would sew trousers at one of the nearly 5,000 workshops run by Chinese immigrants in Prato, which largely turn out cheap clothing for fast-fashion companies in Italy and across Europe.

They’re greasy meatballs. They’re not even real white people.

I’m guessing they’ve got Vatican City on lockdown. There’s a bunch of old dudes there.

I agree w all these points about Italy being a far worse situation to deal w this, but what I haven’t seen enough public data on is what morbidity has really been like for some of these younger folks. Seems to mostly be an unpleasant and lengthy viral illness. But then you hear about severe irreversible lung pathology and I am curious how frequent that is statistically
That and that shite is contagious- lasting on inert surfaces for 12 hours, aren’t a lot of viruses that environmentally stable w that kind of virulence
And damn it’s a MF for older folks

I see China is becoming the hero in Italy for something they started and covered up initially.
quote:
As the World Health Organisation declared Europe to be the new epicentre of the Covid-19 pandemic, China flew 31 tonnes of medical supplies to Rome, along with battle-hardened experts from the region where the virus first took hold.

Italian foreign minister used the Chinese aid to criticise fellow member states of the EU, who have refused to supply health equipment

The real question is what is South Korea up to. Their numbers look pretty stellar compared to others. They have a secret cure, don't they?

They will pay Italy back by no tariffs and no bureaucracy as per all luxury consumer goods company establishment, and will buy some big ticket items country to country. Book it.
Ah, they’ll extract diplomatic assistance in Libya, as well.

Well they travel less, eat less, smoke more probably, drink a lot of wine, and are generally healthier, much less obesity. Probably be worse here since 45% of our population over 50 is obese.

Koreans are the real ones to watch here, testing tens of thousands a day, have apps etc. They learned a lot from previous pandemics and are on their game
Posted on 3/13/20 at 7:59 pm to LSU1018
They had a frick ton of chinamen and Chinese money and buildings.
Posted on 3/13/20 at 8:03 pm to Oilfieldbiology
We are way behind the Koreans. They were testing early on. I feel like we are much closer to Italy as far as testing goes.

Italy really is a awesome country to visit. It's really scenic I hate to hear this go down over there. I plan on visiting it again once this corona runs its course.
