She is. Masters will likely be at Georgetown.

Time to sit down and have her explain her choice. She needs to tell you why she didn’t apply for scholarships at UNT.
If she was considering a top out of state school, a UVA, you should have a problem. Missing out on Arky and OU is no big deal. Very average state schools.

My kids picked their college.

I figured they would be doing the work so we let them pick.

If you're gonna do a public school, it better be a flagship. I'd go to Oklahoma or Arkansas over UNT easily.

but you need to just let her know that she shouldn’t make a decision of where to go to school based on a guy or on friends and stuff. Let her go wherever she wants to go but fill her head with the idea that she needs to choose a school to go to based on what she needs not on what she wants

Get out with this reasonable solution. You're supposed to just tell her "I'm paying the bills so you listen to me."

Yep. Try that bullshite with a kid that pops up and says "I want to go to NYU Daddy, cut me a check for $35k a semester." Say what you want but if the parents are paying the bills, they should have final say on the school selection. If the child is on a free ride then they should be allowed to make the call. Not saying the parents shouldn't counsel them but the final decision is left to the one paying for school.

Call it whatever you want.

My dad said he would help me anywhere I wanted to go but if I went to Ole Miss or Tulane I was on my own. I think he was kidding but IDK.

She can always take a gap year. In 12 months, the jagoff boyfriend will most likely be out of the picture.

Here’s a crazy idea, sit down and talk to her about her thoughts instead of asking a bunch of strangers.

If this is her real goal she probably wants to try to go to a better undergrad than any of those mentioned. Georgetown has the best International Relations program along with Stanford, Brown and Yale but getting into their masters programs is akin to getting into Harvard, Yale, Stanford or U of Chicago law. You can get into them from lesser universities but god is it hard.

He'll be out of the picture by mid September if he's still in HS and she's off to college

Agreed. However, her goal is to transfer to UT-Austin. It's very competitive. High grades from a flagship school like OU will look much better in her application than from UNT.

Parents did.

Didn’t understand why, until my sophomore year.

It was really the best college $$ wise.

Yeah but that doesn't help if she ditches her schollies and parks herself at the University of BFE first.

See my comment above. UT is where she needs to be for undergrad, so trying to maximize her position on the transfer application.

Moving away and gaining independence is one of the major benefits of college.

I would (almost) never let my children go to a local university, especially not if they were doing it for a boyfriend.

So is UNT in-state tuition with no scholarships equal to or less than the other 2 with out-of-state tuition but scholarships?

And if she went to UNT would she live on campus or at home since it's only 20 minutes away?
