I have noticed the “um.” Women seem to begin many thoughts with a hard, heavy “um” when they are speaking in a work context. It’s almost like a verbal
Punctuation mark.

I notice a lot of men say “uh” in quick succession, especially former offensive lineman football commentators. It’s almost like they’re doing it to show they’re just regular dudes who aren’t overly sure of what they are saying.

Article: Men say uh and women say um.

Both are not good. Watched some of Jen Psaki yesterday and couldn’t believe the number of times she said uh. Spokespeople at that level are usually better trained.

Did you know that John smith had to return to England because he accidentally blew his genitals off?

Here's another one for you.

Wad up a piece of paper and throw at a females crotch when they're setting down and they spread their legs...do the same with a male and they clamp their leg together.

About 15 years ago this girl was giving a presentation in one of my social justice type classes in college. She must have said the word “like” 150 times. She couldn’t say a sentence without it.

I make a very conscious effort to use neither one. Started in college. Both have completely left my normal vocabulary.

Its amazing how something so small can make you sound so unprofessional

Speak with confidence and like don't use any of those filler words. They make you sound like dumb.

Those are both in effect stutters where humans are having to make sure they don’t communicate in a way that might get them fired are forced to translate what they want to say into corporate language/jargon.

It’s basically your brain translating a request into your thoughts and then converting it into a new presentation language.

Example: “Sue, what is your proposal for increasing sales?”
What Sue Thinks: “I’d like Jim in sales to get off his arse and push product.”
What Sue Has to Say: “I think, um, that if we re-engage aggressively with key accounts that um, we can make up ground towards achieving our goals.”

BC men are generally less-interested in verbal communication than women. Women are communal/collaborative by nature.

If you say both words next to each other you'll find that saying "Uhh" is much less effort on your face/mouth than saying "Umm".

So, the article says that "over time, the gender divide here seems to level out, and that older people of both genders use uh more and um less." Is that because old people give less Fs and lose their filters as they age? I'd like to think so.

I'll take "um" or "uh" over "like" any day.

Look at her boss though. No one in media is going to criticize anyone on speaking quality right now. At least her statements are coherent, without logic and completely made up bullshite lies most of the time, but still coherent. 99% of the time when they let Biden talk, no one knows what he is even talking about.

Biology at work here, for sure. Women are generally better at verbal communication, particularly across various boundaries, be that age/generation, culture, "class", language, etc.

On the other hand, the brains of most men are wired to receive/interpret women's voices the same way they do music and it requires more effort to interpret female voices as information.

So, there's that.
