seem to recall that the unedited music video showed Jeremy putting a gun into his mouth (suicide ) , not shooting classmates

I heard Eddie Vedder on The Beatles Sirius channel recently saying that the lyric 'And he hit with me with a surprise left' was actually about him hanging out with Paul McCartney. Apparently, McCartney was telling a story and 'accidentally' hit Vedder in the jaw.

Not sure why the director is pissed.

The video (and even the song) works better if it's implied he went after his fellow students, as opposed to a suicide, even if the song is based on a suicide.

Kid was hired to be in Pearl Jam music video.
Kid was great in said video and blew everyone away with his performance.
Kid didn't want fame.
Kid grew up, got some degrees and traveled.
Kid drowned in Puerto Rico one year ago today.

We will agree to disagree. The suicide ending is much more powerful.

LOL at MTV for insisting on the edit. They can wallow in trashy pregnant teenagers, but add a gun and it's OMGZZZ

In MTV's defense, there was about a 20 year gap between "Jeremy" and 16 and Pregnant

There is a link to it in oreeg's post - scroll up a bit.

That link also has an article about the original Jeremy from Richardson, TX. His father's letter about his son's death and the song Pearl Jam is heartbreaking.

And don't forget a year or so later Edward Furlong had a gun at school in the Livin on the Edge video. Luckily he didn't discharge it but rather chose to steal and crash a car.

Music videos used to actually be good. Miss those days.
