Screw that. I waited tables and delivered food in college. I never really felt tips for delivery were dependent on order value unless it was just a huge quantity order. When waiting tables, a higher bill most likely meant a little more attention and service. Delivery is the same drive and drop off no matter what, plus you get a much higher turnover. If I got 2 bucks, I was fine and getting stiffed sucked, but wasn't as bad as when waiting tables.
I understand the sentiment, but looking at it objectively, delivering your food to you requires the increased chance of getting into a wreck and it also costs that person money in gas. And as the costumer, it is more convenient someone bringing it to your house than bringing it to a table you’re sitting at in the restaurant. You aren’t using your own money on gas walking food to their table and you don’t have to worry about some a-hole running a stop sign and t-boning you.

and like i said on the previous page...it isn't just gas. Depending on how many hours you work, you're going through brake pads every 6 months. Oil change about every month.
Your car goes through absolute hell driving through town all day long several days a week.

She'll make $100-200+ in tips plenty of nights working 4-5 hrs on a weeknight during Covid. This is at a mid priced local restaurant. Nothing fancy.
Typical night shift is going to be more like 6 hours for a restaurant that closes at 9, and for every one of those shifts where a server makes $200, they've got 3-4 midweek or morning shifts where they're lucky to make $10/hr.
It's all part of the job though.

You spoke to the pizza guy for 2 minutes? That’s the oddest thing in the post.

There is a reason you get 50 something cents (last I looked) on your taxes for your personal car use in business.
If you divide what you pay for the car less what you get at the end plus all the gas and mx over it's life by the number of miles you get from it you will find it costs about that.
People should look at cars as purchasing miles unless the car is some kind of classic with collector's value.

sounds like you tipped $10 for pizza, that's awesome.

However, it's not in my interests to pretend like a tip is mandatory. It's not. And since it comes out of my wallet, I want you to understand that your tip is based on your performance. And if you want to get cocky about it, you won't get paid neither should you.
You're the guy no one likes to go to dinner with because you're always an a-hole to the servers and you never want to split the bill fairly. Cheap motherfricker.
I had to start making excuses not to get lunch with a coworker cause of this.

I tip 10% on takeout if it’s a decent restaurant because they do pack it up and all for me so I feel they deserve something

The driver arrives on time and we exchange a friendly banter for at least 2 minutes. He hands me the pizza and I hand him a 5’er. He rolls it in his hand in disgust as he looks up at me and completely changed his tone. I get the immediate impression I’m about 10 years behind and he’s somehow offended.
_______________
Who has 2 minutes to talk to you? I gotta get those pizza pies delivered.
I’m sure he looked disgusted at you - this didn’t happen.

$5 is the pizza tip... 1 pizza or 47 pizzas, the tip is $5
Posted on 3/4/21 at 8:32 am to Womski
frick no, I delivered pizza only a few short years ago. $5 tipping definitely solid, and he has no reason to complain about that. He should be doggone excited he got a $10 tip just for one delivery. Because those are definitely a dime a dozen as a driver.

Maybe the driver was upset about being handed a dirty bill during a pandemic?

My niece works at Starbucks... She makes about $11 an hour. She is mad at me now b/c I no longer tip baristas. Most make well above minimum wage... Why should I tip you for doing your job?
Posted on 3/4/21 at 9:36 am to Womski
I usually tip $10 on all pizza deliveries because I used to do it in college and know how bad it sucked.
Nothing like hauling two pizzas and a few two liters up to fat frick living in a trailer in the rain and getting a $2 tip.

How are the baristas working at Starbucks supposed to pay back theatre and gender studies degrees from private universities?

If you eat in they actually wait on you. It’s not go up to the counter and order. So since she’s waiting on me I’ll tip. But like both of you have said. It’s a “fast food” burger joint. She’s should be happy to have gotten much of anything much less the $5 bill I had.

Your sweet gesture of a $5 tip on the app is likely split between everyone working that night, not a delivery tip. He probably figured the "friendly banter" you had was his punishment, earning him a large tip.

Tuscaloosa, you're full of shite.
Dude is bullshitting y'all about in house and take out. The cooks are the first ones in the door early in the morning doing most of the work.
As part of their daily prep, they are making condiments (honey mustard to guacamole) and dressings and then placing those in individual serving containers. They pre-make salads (after washing and cutting it up). They even stage to-go containers.
Not saying the wait staff doesn't do anything. They definitely interact with the customer and proofread the order and get it together. But they're nothing close to what Tuscaloosa is describing. They're the guy in Office Space who freaks out during the Bobs interview about what he does.
I've cooked. I've waited tables. I tip the everliving shite out of great service. I will absolutely lo ball bad service and tell them why. Gratuity is GRATUITY.
Take out gets a buck or two or 10% if it's a big order. You're not taking my order, bringing my drinks, waiting on my whims and needs. Get over yourself if you think otherwise.
