When this happens to me, I say sorry I only have $1-$2 in cash and give them that. Yes I'm being a "sucker" but i don't care. I lose like $5 a year max and I either actually helped someone (99% chance no) or gave some dude a couple bucks towards a 40 or some weed or something. I'm cool with all of that.

Was getting gas one morning and a lady walks up to me and asks if I could put $10 in gas in their car (points to her nearby car with her husband driving). They were waiting for the nearby VA office to open and didn't have enough gas to get home. I said that I would. Her husband pulls the car next to an open gas pump and as I'm walking over, the lady asks me if I could give them any money for breakfast at the McDonald's across the street. I told her I couldn't but that I could do the gas. As I'm pulling the pump out to start pumping, the lady yells, "my husband changed his mind" and she got in the car and they drove off. Likely already had a full tank of gas from the last sucker.

Why don't you do the same routine the next few days and see if you can spot him again. If you do, call the police.

Why would he be at the circle K on Burbank/e. Boyd if his car was broken down on Lee??? There are closer gas stations for him to walk to and ask for money. That seems obvious. Unless I'm missing something.

Sucks you got scammed. I once got approached by a guy in a suit at the E. Boyd Circle K. He needed $15 bucks for a cab. He had to get to LSU to coduct job interviews, He had lost his wallet, and his rental car broke down. He didn't have time to wait for enterprise to get there with a new rental. It all seemed fishy. I didn't have money, but offered him a ride. At first he said no, but before I left he accepted the ride. We were both heading to CEBA.

Two years later I walk into a job interview with a Big 4 firm, and the dude I gave the ride to was the guy interviewing me. He recognized me. Turns out he was a Sr. Manager. Interview was a breeze.

This has happened to me twice.

They really don't need gas. They want cash for drugs.

I had a buddy get approached in Nola for food. He told the guy to come in with him and he would buy him some food. The beggar kept delaying in his choice so my buddy finally gave him 4$. He said I better not see you buy beer or liquor. Well I'm pumping gas and the beggar comes out with a 32oz Busch beer can. He was about to hop on his bike and I alerted my buddy "look! He bought beer!" My buddy runs over snatches the beer out of his hand and yells. "Told you not to buy beer with my money!" And pops the top and chugs entire beer in front the beggar. Then slammed the empty on the ground and walked back to my truck. It was a CSB

One time at the Circle K in tigerland (Circle K's seem to be the spot for beggers), a VERY attractive college girl in the standard sorority uniform hit me up for money as I was leaving. She gave me this stressed out story about being broke and needing money for gas. Since there were no pumps at this circle K, I got a little skeptical. I told her I didn't have any cash (which was true) and to ask her dad for money. If I had cash, I probably would've given it to her for the same reason OP did this guy. She looked like someone in a bad luck situation, not a scammer.
