As opposed to asking at the Winn Dixie at Burbank and Lee or the Circle K at Highland and Lee or the AM Mart or Circle K at Nicholson and Lee.

You got hosed man. Think next time.

I did one time (to an obvious scammer) ask him if HE had any money and if he did I could turn it around 5x for him if he just waited around for an hour. The guy looked really confused and walked off.

Not that it helps you but I had absolutely awesome sex with a screamer for two months less than 50 yds. from that 7-11 in the early 80's.

I wonder if Gerald, the Pop a Lock guy, is angry that this new bum is working his turf.

Here's my go to when people ask me for gas money.

I tell them I won't just give them money, but I'll buy something from them for gas money.

First time I used that line, guy thought about it for a second and said yeah. Pops his trunk and comes out with this nice roadside emergency kit with an air compressor, flashing road lights, first aid kit. I gave him $20 for it. Win-win.

Last time I used this approach, a guy in a Jeep Cherokee said he had nothing to sell. I said you're telling me you've got nothing of value to sell in your whole car? "No" I said well I guess you don't need the money bad enough then, cause I'd rip the radio or speakers out of my truck if I was desperate. Later.

I have had dozens of people walk up to me in parking lots with some story about why they need 20 or 30 bucks, after the first few I just started stopping them in the middle of the story, and pulling out 5 or 10 bucks, saying this is all I can do, all but one thanked me and walked on.

There was a guy in Tuscloosa that used to do this all the time. Scammed so many people. He got my roommate for like 70 bucks.

I think he eventually got popped good, and sent to jail.

Its amazing what a good story/acting job, along with a clean appearance can do to persuade people that have kind hearts. Sucks.

What? You let them start the story? As soon as I see some guy headed my way at a gas station and make eye contact with me, I look at them and say "Nope" before they get a word out. They move on looking for a dupe.

I know they are all scamming me, but if just one of them actually needed the money for their child or food I can live with the rest. It is a mindset I still have from living in Kenya a long time ago. There was no social welfare system, and lots of people worked the streets. It was just the norm for people to give them money if you could afford it. The difference being they probably needed to eat, here it is usually drugs.

That's my approach. I see them coming and yell NO!! like I'm a lunatic who is going to kill them. They usually turn in an instant.

It works. If they're scamming you, they'll say they don't have anything to sell.

The ones that really are in a bind are more than happy to sell something.

You cant go by what people look like. A good scammer knows how to gain your trust.
