I live with it day in and out. Just don't give a rat's arse. One thing, I know for a fact if I make it thru the day, the same problems will still be there tomorrow. So, the reason I just don't give a rat's arse.

After my kids were born and growing up, I was stuck in this rut about them getting older. I couldn't enjoy looking at old pics and videos without losing it.

I could tell something was fricky, so I went to the psych. They put me on 10 MG of Prozac, later upping it to 20.

It helped tremendously. That was about 3 years ago. But now I'm starting to drift a little bit again.

I know what you're feeling, pal. Where's the passion, zeal, drive, etc? I used to attack life. Now I seem to be sitting around more and not wanting to do shite.

I'm personally of the opinion that depression just doesn't pop up out of nowhere. People are depressed for a reason but many hold on to and suppress whatever is making them depressed to the point where they try to deny its existence ultimately claiming depression is just a spontaneous event...

Eta: I dont like it when people call depression a "disease" or treat it like one because it makes it sound like something people cant help unless they take medication. Depression is not just physical but there's a deep spiritual/soul aspect to it. It's like big pharma is hiding behind the "mental issues" campaign ready to pounce even further into our pill cabinets.

Exercise, write in a journal, there are legitimate reasons people are depressed. It's not unsolvable and people arent helpless to change it without medication and expensive therapy.

So, what you do in your spare time? Hunt, fish or anything outdoors? If not, get your butt out there.

Why does this information matter?

Should people who arent decent looking kill themselves? Is that all there is to human beings?

Then just do it or just pack a small ice chest with a couple beers and go to a driving range. Knock a few buckets and down a couple beers. Can't get any better then that for a relaxing morning.

As a dad and grandpaw, we, the working class at our mid age just stop everything that makes us tick just to do for our family. Been there, done that.

You know, that's really something to consider. I've heard about that being a problem. Hopefully it's something I can turn around until we hit that retirement milestone.

At any given time, about 30% of the American population is experiencing mental problems. The vast majority of these mental injuries are depression.

Nobody, and I repeat nobody has to suffer from depression. It is the only mental injury that is 100% treatable.

If you're experiencing depression and not going to a doctor for help, then you're choosing to suffer. Take depression seriously. It's not something you can just walk off, like a charlie horse, but it is entirely treatable. It's just an injury and can be completely healed.

MJC, I went through a time when I struggled with depression. It went on for over a year or so.

It was a situation where I was dealing with a lot of pain and long story short it ended up being my gallbladder. My doctor tested for it and all and said there were some ulcers but that was not causing my pain.

When I was younger I had rods put in my back because I had scoliosis and while they were never a problem for me, he told me that was the source of my pain.

It caused me to get really down then eventually I was in a state of depression. I even had several anxiety attacks during this period. There are more details, but my point is, I know that it is not fun dealing with depression and no one can understand it unless they have dealt with it. Once I had gallbladder removed and I no longer had the pain I was dealing with, I was able to do things that helped me slowly get out of a state of depression.

One thing I did learn is that a lack of vitamin D can play a factor in depression. Getting out and getting sun doesn't seem like much, but it can. It might not do much, but it does help.

But the numbers don't lie, suicide is at an all time high.

As for as keeping someone who is brain dead alive, why? It might seem like the right thing to do, but it's not. I would never want to be kept alive if I were in that state, I would only be a burden on my family. And over time, if that is something you are thinking about all the time.. It can possibly contribute to depression.

Just remember, we are the main earner, the back bone of the family, and the last to know what is going on in the family.

Don't know how old your kids are, but some times you and your wife just need to step away for a weekend. More so if you can get that done and set it up without your wife knowing. If you can get it set up, just tell the wife to pack a overnight bag and GO!

Take that time to talk to each other and find out where y'all are in life and where y'all want to be 10, 20 and 30years from now. Y'all almost home to the point that real life rewards comes.

I once thought I was depressed because I had run my life in to a toilet. I made a plan to better myself and set goals to dig myself out of my rut. 6 years later and I have a good career and such but the depression has never gone away. Constantly making changes in my life trying to figure it out.

It is exhausting. I'm tired. Really fricking tired.

I live with depression that feels like it is crushing / suffocating me daily.

But I'm not an alcoholic, a drug addict, or suicidal... so I take that as a win in itself, I guess.

I’ve been doing better at times the last couple weeks, but I’ve been struggling with depression mightily for 2 years at least, especially so since March. Talking helps, seeing friends helps, but nothing heals other time. The problem with depression is that it saps your will to do all of the things that make it better. You just have to fight through it and force yourself to do those things like see your friends, exercise, and push forward on your hobbies.

For me, most of my depression dealt with the flood and my subsequent marriage slowly falling apart soon thereafter.

For me, I decided to follow Warren Buffet’s advice: make a list of 25 things you want to accomplish and rank them in order of importance. Then, ignore everything after the first 5 until those first 5 are accomplished, then slide those goals up the list in order.

My divorce and law school left me broke, jobless, and fat. So, I’m focusing on my top 5: pass the bar, find a real job, find a new place to live, get back in shape, keep the band together and moving forward. Hopefully, by May of next year, I will have accomplished all of those things, so I can start working on the rest of my list.
